Accuracy dispute

[edit]

According to current and past news releases on the KIRO-TV homepage, the station has closed the ratings gap in recent years and has surpassed KOMO-TV for the #2 spot in the local news ratings...Ranma9617 00:47, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the dubious tag, and revised the sentence to avoid reference to current ratings since the context of the section was the period between 1993 and 1997. This makes it easier for future editors, so that it doesn't need revision every time the ratings shift. --Roninbk 13:32, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Affiliations

[edit]

I keep seeing two people (Emarsee and 42.108.73.219) going back and forth about KIRO's Affiliations, Former Affiliations, and Sub-Channels. You guys need to work it out here on the discussion page! --Joshuadkelley (talk) 07:39, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CBS is obviously not the name of the subchannel for 7.1. --Emarsee (TalkContribs) 15:46, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No, but KIRO-TV isn't necessarily the name, either. I think identifying what is on channel 7.1 should really consist of a combination, such as "KIRO/CBS" or "KIRO-TV (CBS)". If I'm new to the area, I don't care so much about the station's call letters, I want to know where to watch CSI, and that would be on CBS. So, I want to tune to 7.1, not 7.2 or 7.3. KIRO-TV is really the blanket identification of the station, not necessarily of ONLY 7.1.
I tend to put my thoughts in a "rambling" order, so I hope this makes sense. - Joshuadkelley (talk) 12:30, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that would be necessary, just below the subchannel box lists KIRO is affliated with CBS, not RTN. Since most stations run their main programming on Channel.1 and not Channel.2, most if not all people will know that 7.1 is indeed CBS and not 7.2. --Emarsee (TalkContribs) 17:24, 7 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Adding unreferenced entries of former employees to lists containing BLP material

[edit]

Hello, Please do not add unreferenced names as entries to the list of former employees in articles. Including this type of material in articles does not abide by current consensus and its inclusion is strongly discouraged in our policies and guidelines. The rationales are as follows:

  1. WP:NOT tells us, Wikipedia is "not an indiscriminate collection of information." As that section describes, just because something is true, doesn't necessarily mean the info belongs in Wikipedia.
  2. As per WP:V, we cannot include information in Wikipedia that is not verifiable and sourced.
  3. WP:Source list tells us that lists included within articles (including people's names) are subject to the same need for references as any other information in the article.
  4. Per WP:BLP, we have to be especially careful about including un-sourced info about living persons.

If you look at articles about companies in general, you will not find mention of previous employees, except in those cases where the employee was particularly notable. Even then, the information is not presented just as a list of names, but is incorporated into the text itself (for example, when a company's article talks about the policies a previous CEO had, or when they mention the discovery/invention of a former engineer/researcher). If a preexisting article is already in the encyclopedia for the person you want to add to a list, it's generally regarded as sufficient to support their inclusion in list material in another article. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 21:11, 27 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
