[edit]I created this long-overdue article on April 1, 2008 and expanded it on April 6. A free license photo of the KILI studio control room or an evening drum performance is requested for the article. JGHowes talk - 16:35, 6 April 2008 (UTC)
- I hate to be a pedant but didn't WOJB start broadcasting in 1982. It is owned by the LCO Band community in northern Wisconsin.--Wickifrank (talk) 15:44, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
- Good point. The sources cited here say KILI is "the first completely owned and operated radio station by American Indians in the United States of America". Would WOJB's licensee, Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwa Public, be completely Indian-owned and operated? JGHowes talk - 18:56, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
The cpb report at http://www.cpb.org/aboutcpb/reports/diversity/06diversity.pdf describes WOJB as meeting their criteria of at least 50% directed and operated by a minority, in this case native american. The ownership level could of course be much higher. Google did have anything more specific. WOJBs own website uses this phrase "WOJB 88.9FM, Lac Courte Oreilles' own tribal radio station" which implies ownership by the tribe. Not wanting to take anything away from KILI could you add "and broadcasting primarily in a native amarican language" to your reference to ownership. WOJB is a primarily English language station --Wickifrank (talk) 21:15, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
- The problem is there doesn't seem to be a reliable source that states WOJB is 100% Indian owned and operated. Not even their own website says that. One would think that if it were, they or some other source that can be cited would say so. JGHowes talk - 01:39, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
