– This RM follows from a recently concluded RfC. It proposes 11 page moves to change (defunct) disambiguators to more specific ones for radio station articles in the United States. In these cases, stations later used the callsigns in the same city or metropolitan area, making disambiguation by either frequency or time a must. I've chosen frequency in most cases, though time is more appropriate for the oldest stations to be considered: KFIO, WMH and WSM-FM. Raymie (t • c) 06:01, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose all. These proposals make no indication that the stations are defunct, whereas the current method does. I don't see what's confusing about the current method, but the proposals all leave no indication that the station no longer exists, making it look like just another radio station article. These proposals could present a problem if a defunct station & a current station carry both the same callsign, & community of license (or at least market).Stereorock (talk) 11:13, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
- It turns out KFIO really isn't a defunct station. In 1929 the High School sold it to a commercial operator, and after many ownership and call letter changes the station is now KSBN (AM), so KFIO (defunct) should just be merged into that. (The KSBN entry is missing most of the station's early history, but its FCC History Cards verifies its direct link to KFIO). Also, although old, for consistency I would rename WMH (defunct) as WMH (AM). Thomas H. White (talk) 11:29, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
- I'm removing KFIO from the RM as a result. Good catch. A number of the (defunct) articles that exist are merge candidates, not move candidates. Raymie (t • c) 19:20, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose all per my explanation at Talk:KAPY-LP (defunct)#Defunct radio station disambiguator changes. I also think it might be helpful to discuss this and related disambiguation issues at the WP:WPRS talk page before proposing additional moves. Levdr1lp / talk 18:34, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose per my comments at Talk:KCTY (defunct). The current method of disambiguation works fine. Defunct is a useful disambiguator for TV and radio stations. Whether is is useful for other kinds of articles is irrelevant. This discussion is being carried out on four different talk pages with different proposed alternative disambiguation methods. A consensus should be reached on one page on whether the pages should be renamed at all and on what if any alternative method should be used. However, there are specific problems with some of the current and proposed titles, and nominating so many pages to be moved all at once has resulted in those problems being overlooked in these discussions. A general consensus should be reached first. Then, if that consensus is in favor of renaming, a consensus should be reached for each station individually.--Tdl1060 (talk) 00:58, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
