General convo
We should ditch the wapuro stuff for circumflexed vowels signifying double vowels. WhisperToMe 05:48, 20 Jun 2004 (UTC)
First of all. This page is incorrectly named. It should be Naruto jutsu, not Naruto jutsus. Second, this page should be a part of the existing Naruto page. Third, there are various romanization problems here. Oh, Whisper to me. What a surprise... Exploding Boy 06:26, Jul 5, 2004 (UTC)
- How about "List of Naruto jutsu"? The "List of ..." article name is becoming commonplace on Wikipedia, and it seems to make sense; this is list, after all. --Iamunknown 07:05, 12 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- I changed the name of the article to Naruto jutsu --JadziaLover 08:29, 12 Apr 2005 (UTC)
The size of this page is in excess of 32k--would it be reasonable to create subpages for Taijutsu, Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and Other, and move the bulk of the information there? ('other' could include combinations of the regular three categories, such as harem no jutsu, as well as jutsu that do not easily fit into the initial three categories, such as 'Cancel'--arguably not itself a genjutsu, though it relates to them.) Chimerasame 07:12, Nov 16, 2004 (UTC)
Two things:
- The Chidori is listed twice, once as a taijutsu and once as ninjutsu (although it's listed as it's other name, the one that start's with an R). Should it be deleted or listed under the same thing to help clarify things?
- Second, the Sharingan can also be used to copy jutsus, edited the entry accordingly..vb5678
In the first databook Chidori and Raikiri are treated as two different jutsu. Chidori (done by Uchiha Sasuke) is an A-rank jutsu, while Raikiri (done by Hatake Kakashi) is S-rank. Therefore I think we should keep them seperate. They are by the way both ninjutsu.--JadziaLover 15:36, 11 Apr 2005 (UTC)
i'm changing all references to "jutsus" to "jutsu", except for the actual name of the page, of course, which is probably a pain and definitely beyond my ability. maybe it can just point/forward to a new page Naruto_jutsu ? i think this page is big enough to be apart from the main naruto page but i don't think it warrants separate taijutsu/ninjutsu/genjutsu pages... --gb 02:39, Dec 10, 2004 (UTC)
Organization
I think that it would be nice if jutsus were grouped with similar ones. Not in such broad groups as "Genjutsu," "Taijutsu" and "Ninjutsu" demand, but rather "Eye (I forgot the Romaji -- is it 'Douton'?) Techniques," "Summoning (Kuchiyose) Techniques," etc.
Problems:
- The broad categories are used in the manga and are well-known.
- Some alike jutsu (e.g. "Eye Techniques") are categorized into different broad categories. See: Byakugan, Mangekyō Sharingan and Sharingan.
Benefits:
- More organization.
- With sections, we could have an article for each type of technique, and shorten the descriptions and/or eliminate some of the less well-known jutsus in this main article, but keep them in their group articles.
Solutions?:
- Wikipedia categories. Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and Taijatsu splitting up into Kuchiyose, Eye, etc.
- Template. I've been toying with the idea of a Naruto template for a while. The problem is that there is so much to be written, unless we only include main characters, jutsus, bloodline limits, etc, such as: Uzumaki Naruto, Haruno Sakura, Uchiha Sasuke, Hatake Kakashi, and then Sharingan, the sealing jutsu used by Yondaime and then Sandaime, etc.
I like this idea because:
- I think that a main article branching out to individual articles is a good idea. Then readers come to the hub (main article), find another article they would like to look more into, and cross-reference to it. Imagine the pain one must go through with this gigantic article to find their needle in a haystack!
--Iamunknown 07:23, 12 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I agree. Topics such as puppet jutsu (currently a pathetic little blurb on this article) are getting broader by the week. --Lionelster 09:21, 16 August 2005 (UTC)
Can we go ahead with splitting this article? Article size is slowing down page loading and editing. We should discuss how we're going to organize the splitage: 1) alphabetically, as it is now. 2) categorically.
I think #2 would be more intuitive. Jutsu can easily be put together as such: doton, katon, suiton, puppeteering (including descriptions of puppets), summoning (animals/hokages/weapons/etc), medical (including attacks), all of Kimimaro's goddamn bone dances, etc. Obviously some catagories will include nin- and genjutsu for example, so the jutsu can simply be indicated as such -- meanwhile the general descriptions of tai-, gen- and ninjutsu go to the top of the (main) Naruto Jutsu page. Discuss as well, if necessary, if clone jutsu (plain/water/shadow/bugs/etc) can be put together, for instance.
--Lionelster 06:26, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
- The second option would be best. There are already some existing jutsu categories often used, e.g. Ninjutsu, Taijutsu, Genjutsu, Bunshin ninjutsu, Iryō ninjutsu (Medical ninjutsu), Kuchiyose ninjutsu, Juin jutsu (Cursed seal jutsu), Fūin jutsu (Sealing techniques), Hiden jutsu (Secret clan techniques, e.g. Nara, Akimichi, Aburame...), Kekkei genkai, Henge ninjutsu...
- We could further categorize the jutsu if needed. For instance, we could put Gaara's jutsu in a seperate category. The same with Gai's and Lee's taijutsu (Konoha Senpū, Konoha Reppū, etc), Basic ninjutsu (e.g. Nawanuke and Kakuremino), Elemental jutsu (Katon, Suiton, etc.)--JadziaLover 09:14, 23 August 2005 (UTC)
- You know what, splitting everything that far might be over the top. I foresee folks calling for all those disparate jutsu pages to be merged. Article size probably isn't a big issue anyway. However, the idea sounds great for organization within this page, naturally. It would look sorta like this:
- general description
- taijutsu
- genjutsu
- ninjutsu
- ranking
- general description
- (intuitive categorization begins...)
- basics
- kawarimi
- buunshin
- seals
- summoning
- items/puppets/weapons (scroll)
- kuchiyose
- animal
- dead folks
- elemental
- katon
- suiton
- medical
- puppeteering
- "gaijutsu" ;)
- etc...
- basics
- A LOT of work, yes. First things first: a consensus? Is this something we can all agree on? And then of course: who's gonna do it? How would a collaboration work? This would be a major overhaul project here. Discuss.

- This sounds good. However, it would, of course, be important to properly classify the jutsu. For one, those weapon 'summons', like Tenten and Naruto do, are probably nothing more then simple sealed weapons (no blood is needed). And what exactly are the elemental jutsu? Are only those with Xton in front of their names elemental jutsu, or jutsu like Amaterasu and Kibaku Nendo also considered elemental jutsu--JadziaLover 12:24, 1 October 2005 (UTC)
- "Elemental": those were your words, btw. The key here is intuitive, or obvious. Perhaps something like Amaterasu ought exclusively to be in a kekkei genkai category? Otherwise it's rather obvious it's a katon jutsu, so that's okay. And I don't think an umbrella "elemental" category is necessary; every Xton can be one each. Anyhow, you've exposed a con for this move, which is important to note: ambiguity.
- We can use "see also" links where there are secondary similarities among jutsu. E.g. the basic bunshin jutsu points to kagebunshin, bug bunshin, etc. elsewhere on the page.
- Btw, isn't bunshin no jutsu a genjutsu, instead of a ninjutsu? --Lionelster 01:59, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
- "See also" links sound good, but wouldn't that make the page very big, and/or confusing?
- Bunshin no Jutsu is a regular ninjutsu technique. It uses the user's chakra to creates an image of the user. A Genjutsu uses the opponent's chakra against him.--JadziaLover 12:58, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
My attempt at categorization follows. Yeah, it's long. Note the significant portion of the techniques which don't have even a vaguely defined category. Also, some techniques fit into one or more of my categories, and it's still a very rough categorization. The groups for the most part also supersede type (tai/ninjutsu), so that perhaps needs to go in the info header for each technique. --Pentasyllabic 05:11, 3 October 2005 (UTC)

This looks very good, but I have a couple of comments ^^
Wouldn't Hiraishin belong to person-specific jutsu?
I don't think Gamaguchi belongs in the Medical/biological category
I don't think Shishi rendan should be under Sharingan
Is Sensatsu Suisho specific to Haku's bloodline?
Juin jutsu are not Fuuin jutsu
I don't really consider Gaara's sand jutsu to be elemental
Which brings me, once again, to the important question, what is an elemental jutsu?--JadziaLover 12:58, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
- I thought Sensatsu Suisho was using Haku's bloodline to control the water; it doesn't help that most Suiton techniques do about the same thing, only with chakra instead of bloodlines. Juin jutsu are listed under Fuin on the main page. I suppose that Hiraishin could be categorized with the Rasengans. As for "elemental jutsu", I don't have a clear answer... Temari's attacks are wind-based but don't have a Futon: in front, are they considered elemental wind attacks?
- Another possible category is forbidden jutsu, there's a few of those. --Pentasyllabic 17:00, 3 October 2005 (UTC)
Sweet. Just the way I'd picture it: clan/individual/bloodline-specific whenever possible. I see duplicate entries though. Must rectify that. Like I said, we can drop the "elemental" category. Sand and wind are categories on their own, and yes, Temari's attacks are futon. It's just obvious. Forbidden jutsu and other general terms like doujutsu should go in "general description" along with gen/nin/taijutsu, and jutsu that are such are labeled as such. --Lionelster 07:45, 4 October 2005 (UTC)
- I don't see how Temari's attacks are Futon since she uses her fan to control, more of less, the wind. Anyways, I think that Sakura Fubuki no Jutsu should not be listed in Ninjutsu, it is more of a Taijutsu since it really doesn't use chakra, if a jutsu at all, EDIT: I think we might just put a little tag next to each jutsu like if it is a medical jutsu put [MEDICAL] next to it and on the list so that someone can easily scim the list and be like "OH! MEDICAL! I WANT!" yes, no? --Anyr 19:12, 5 April 2006 (UTC)
Names of sections
I'm getting really tired of all this constant renaming. There are many page on wikipedia that refer back to this page, but half the time the links are broken because the technique headings CONSTANTLY change. Let's get a concensus, please. How are we naming the techniques? Is it Japanese name first (English name) or English name (japanese name)? I personally prefer Japanese Name (English Name) mainly because this is an ANIME done in JAPAN, and we should do our best to preserve this. Yes, I know the English names are "official" viz translations, but when we translate Kage Bunshin no Jutsu to Art of the Doppelganger, we have to look at ourselves and say "WTF, mate?".
THEREFORE, let it be known that from this day forth, we need a concensus. That is all. I like rabbits.
P.S.: I'm also going to stick the cleanup tag up on this article now.
Hobbeslover 16:33, 29 May 2005 (UTC)
Hobbeslover I completely agree with you, Japanese Name (English Name) should indeed be used in my opinion. Most people use the Japanese names and, if I'm not mistaken, even Viz is using them together with the English names they came up with. That and you are right, it is a Japanese Manga/Anime we should use the original and not some translation, no matter how 'official' this translation is.
--JadziaLover 19:15, 29 May 2005 (UTC)
"Japanese Name (English Name) mainly because this is an ANIME done in JAPAN,"
And because of this Pokemon should use all of the Japanese names despite the fact that it would throw off everyone who is not familiar with them. Besides, your reasons for hating the American translation are flimsy. Look up the definition of a Doppelganger sometime. And the reason things are "changing" so much is partly due to anonymous users editing. Also, some attacks don't have English names yet. Now, Viz has started to use the Japanese attack names and Japanese item named together with English. However, "clones" are still regularly rendered as doppelgangers. Besides, the anime is coming out in September, so we should wait to see what the anime does. WhisperToMe 21:54, 29 May 2005 (UTC)
I agree with Hobbeslover and JadziaLover. We should prefer the original Japanese names over the English names. WhisperToMe, this encyclopædia isn't only used in the US. I come from the Netherlands and I always use the English Wikipedia. The anime is being released in the US, not in the rest of the world. I believe the majority of the Naruto fans prefer the Japanese names, so please think about that.
Also, don't compare Naruto with Pokemon. Naruto has gathered a huge fanbase all over the world while it hasn't even been released in most of those countries. Pokemon only got popular after it had been released in English, that is why everyone knows the English names better then the Japanese names.
--Love Gaara 23:15, 29 May 2005 (UTC)
I hate how its so anti-US centric sometimes. Yea, it's not US-only, but it's not Japan-only either. See, the USA and Canada (yes, these books are sold in Canada as well) are the only countries in the world with English-language Naruto books, so we use their translations, et al.
" I come from the Netherlands and I always use the English Wikipedia. The anime is being released in the US, not in the rest of the world. I believe the majority of the Naruto fans prefer the Japanese names, so please think about that. "
And the majority of people in the Netherlands speak Dutch. And the Dutch don't have their own Naruto release so they are free to use the Japanese names. See, on the English Wikipedia, we have a tendency to cater to the cultures of the US, Canada, India, Australia, the UK, and New Zealand, and we always will. We use English-language release names of numerous anime series for this reason. Also, English-language manga series in Europe are usually imported from the United States.
Think about the casual masses who know nothing about Naruto. This is not solely a Narutoencyclopedia.
WhisperToMe 23:30, 29 May 2005 (UTC)
Most people prefer the Japanese names and this goes for people from the US, Canada, India, Australia, the UK, and New Zealand too. Even Viz is starting to use them! I don't see any reason not to use the Japanese names. About the 'casual masses', if they don't know anything about Naruto, the Japanese names are as much use to them as the English.--JadziaLover 23:58, 29 May 2005 (UTC)
Now, I'm actually okay with "Japanese (English)" format for headers, so go ahead and change that aspect if you wish. WhisperToMe 00:15, 30 May 2005 (UTC)
Alright then "Japanese (English)" it will be. P.S. what made you change your mind WhisperToMe? --Love Gaara 00:25, 30 May 2005 (UTC)
Because the English is still in there. WhisperToMe 00:35, 30 May 2005 (UTC)
Lol, for some reason, I expected Jadzia and Whsiper to respond to this. BTW, Whisper, I know what doppelganger means, but it just sounds so GAY. They could have avoided the awkwardness sounding of it all and went with Shadow Clones or something, but that's not what the debate is about. So we've reached a concensus, yay.

- Wow, that list of characters is just ... wow. I have a newfound hatred for long-running anime series that just don't know when to call it quits. Or at least anime series that unnecessarily inject dozens of throw-away characters (and each of which is slightly longer than the last so that they always pose a challenge to the hero). --Cyde Weys talk;contribs 02:44, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- The problem is that the character list shows even characters that appeared and died in the same chapter. As for this list, put yourself in a common user place. You may have heard about Naruto, and come here to learn what Naruto is. But you won't come to know what Jikki Chikamatsu no Shu or White Secret Technique: Ten Puppet Group of Chikamatsu is. Heck, you probably won't know how to spell it. This information is very technical, and does not fit the encyclopedia. It fits a Wikibook better. Idea that will help everyone...
I loved back when the jutsu's were all in the same article, but now that they are seperated they are kind of difficult to find. I propose that we fuse all the jutsu's together into one article with all of the jutsu, and still have the individual articles. What do you peoples think? --Anyr 19:50, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
- A single article becomes too long, that was why it was splitted. In fact, I am not sure if the Naruto jutsu should be in Wikipedia or in a Wikibook or Wikiguide instead. Having small and long articles can't be done, since it is much harder to have both branches synchronized. -- ReyBrujo 20:02, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
Jutsus
This subject section is for the jutsu that you think should be somewhere else or not listed as a jutsu at all. I think that the Shikomishindan (Prepared Needle Shot) should not be counted as a Ninjutsu since it doesn't involve chakra, from what I can see, at all. It should be considered a Taijutsu or maybe a special class of "Weapon Jutsu" or something, but it just uses a weapon and doesn't really use chakra. Add a comment to this if you find another jutsu that should either be moved or somethign such as that. --Anyr 19:01, 7 April 2006 (UTC)
- This is quite a good idea ^^ There are some jutsu I don't think should be listed.
- Under Taijutsu, there is Hayabusa Otoshi (Peregrine Falcon Drop).
- Under Ninjutsu, there are Chakura Kyuin Jutsu (Chakra Absorption Technique), Fukumikuchi Hari (Hidden Mouth Needles), and Muon Satsujin Jutsu (Silent Homicide Technique).
- All of these 'jutsu' are not considered jutsu by the data books and, as such, should not be listed as jutsu. Also, I think all the jutsu that are anime only should be double checked. Although most of them seem right, some of them have wrong kanji (i.e. Fusajin no Jutsu (Dust Wind Technique)), or impossible translations (i.e. Hi no Hagane (Wings of the Sun))
- I also think the entries for Kekkei Genkai on Naruto jutsu should be removed, since they have their own article (Kekkei genkai (Naruto)).

--Datavi X 17:51, 8 April 2006 (UTC)
- They are all listed in the ninjutsu ect. (^_^) --Anyr
- I think the hidden mouth needles is because it uses chakra, atleast I think it does, to draw needles into the mouth, or possibly it might be a summoning thing. Though the databooks might not be updated to the current ones, but I don't know. I can't read the databooks since they aren't in English. --Anyr

hidden jutsu
There are many jutsus listed with the type hiden, did everyone forget to spellcheck? The word is spelt hidden, not hiden. All of these references need to be edited. Everyone should help fix this. photodude 07:49, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- We have a note regarding this. The correct trasliteration of the term is "Hiden", which means secret. Please read the section. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 07:57, 1 December 2006 (UTC)
- Secret; mystery; secret formula (秘伝, hiden) –Gunslinger47 03:13, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know what trasliteration perhaps you meant transliteration missing a letter makes a difference in understanding. In the same way hiden is not hidden. hiden is not a word and does not mean anything other then someone doesn't know how to spell in the English/American language. Where as hidden is a word, Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.0.1) hid·den –adjective
- 1. concealed; obscure; covert: hidden meaning; hidden hostility.
- –verb 2. pp. of hide.

- —Synonyms 1. secret, veiled; occult.
- Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.0.1)
- Based on the Random House Unabridged Dictionary, © Random House, Inc. 2006.
- A bunch of random people getting together and writing hiden means secret; does not make it a word, correct spelling, or a transliteration. Hidden most closely means secret photodude 07:14, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- You seem to misunderstand... 秘伝 -> 秘 "hi" 伝 "den" -> "Hiden". This is a transliteration from the Japanese. The definition of "Hiden" is secret, mystery, secret formula which just happens to be similar to the English word "hidden". --Pentasyllabic 07:20, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- You should be able to understand my context fine. No need to go off on a rant about a typo. Like Pent said, hiden is the "Japanese" term, which seems to have gone over your head at the moment. We don't use secret or hidden because these specific ranks and such don't have an English translation. Until we get a non-scantalated databook, it'll have to do. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 07:39, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- perhaps i should avoid editing at 2 in the morning. what i was seeing was a typo and not a Romanization. at the late hour... transliteration was not clicking as synonymous with Romanization, i apologize for the shear waste of everyones time this has been. photodude 22:06, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- I've become a fan of italicizing all Japanese terms as a visual queue to the reader. –Gunslinger47 17:54, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'll second the motion of italicizing all Japanese terms; and will additonally suggest that it might be a good idea to include the glyphs with the transliterations in italics. photodude 22:06, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
Chakra Elements
I don't know if there already is a section and I cannot find it, but I suggest that an article is created to describe all the different chakra elements. As in their strengths, their weaknessess, and some of the main characters who correspond with each chakra element. Such as how Naruto has wind chakra, and the strength of wind chakra is it's ability to "blow past anything and slice things to bits.", as Kakashi had put it. Mihangel 00:09, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
- Jutsu (Naruto)#Chakra *taps nose twice* – Someguy0830 (T | C) 00:17, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
On a similer subject, when did Yamato say that light and dark chakras exist? Lascoden 01:43, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
- Whenever they started that little lesson in the first place. He mentions it when Naruto asks about medical techniques. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 04:58, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
On another note, when it srticle says "Certain kekkei genkai can also create unique elements, such as wood and ice, through a mixture of the basic elements, which normal ninja are incapable of doing." I am not sure if this is true. What about when Naruto and Yamato mixed elements to make the maelstrom technique? I believe it was Naruto who used the actual technique, not Yamato 142.167.164.18 23:11, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
- That was a combo attack, not a mix. Yamato and Naruto combined their attacks to form a new one. – Someguy0830 (T | C) 23:26, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Sharingan
Sorry if I'm doing this wrong this is my first time in a discussion. I've heard that the Sharingan is called, quote Sasuke, "visual jutsu, or Doujutsu" (or something) from the dubbed version. Is this something to be noted?

Second Shinobi Tactical Knowledge : Genjutsu
Third Shinobi Tactical Knowledge : Ninjutsu

Clan techniques
Should we simply put the clan in general as users of a certain technique (as seen at Shadow Imitation Technique), or only to the people seen using them (only Ino for Mind Body Switch Technique), as there appears to be a lack of consistency. Sephiroth BCR 01:33, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
- So long as the jutsu is taught by the clan (or likely taught by the clan), labeling it as such seems fine. Jutsu developed by specific clan members, such as Protection of the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms and Shuriken Shadow Imitation Technique, should be left as whoever specifically uses it. ~SnapperTo 02:31, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
Game techniques
Do they need to be listed? Most of them are pretty pointless to list, and they take up a lot of space. There is also the fact that they're essentially game guide material. TTN 01:13, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- They should be all cut. They fail notability and WP:NOT. Sephiroth BCR 01:14, 15 May 2007 (UTC)
- Just a thought, what would you say about making another alternate article for all the Jutsus (one for each) from the game, it won't take up as much space. SoundPound500000
- Space isn't the issue; it's that the info is pointless. Feel free to place it here. TTN 21:13, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- Game abilities can be mentioned in each character's article under an "Other media" section, though it needs to be limited to things that are unique and not variations of abilities they already have. An example would be a brief example of the kinds of attacks Naruto can use while in his "Might Suit" form. ~SnapperTo 23:02, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Hand seal
i have come to find out through lots of research what that each animal (of the hand seals) are connected to a element
Wind | Fire | Earth | Lightning | Water | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Rat | no | no | yes | no | yes |
Ox | no | no | yes | no | yes |
Tiger | yes | no | no | no | no |
Rabbit | yes | no | no | no | no |
Dragon | yes | no | no | no | no |
Snake | no | yes | no | no | no |
Horse | no | yes | no | no | no |
Sheep | no | yes | no | no | no |
Monkey | no | no | no | yes | no |
Rooster | no | no | no | yes | no |
Dog | no | no | no | yes | no |
Pig | no | no | no | no | yes |
and not only that each hand seal represnts ighter dark(offensive) or light(defensive) jutsu
Offensive | Defensive |
---|---|
Rat | Rabbit |
Ox | Horse |
Tiger | Sheep |
Dragon | Rooster |
Snake | Dog |
Monkey | Pig |
and this governs the type of outcome of the jutsu
for example if u where to use alot of fire jutsu in your hand seal and u where to use alot of defensive hand seals then you would make some kind of fire shild but if you use alot of offensive you would use a fire breath attack
i need more info to fully understand this subject
i would really love it if you guy can put in your two cents on this sunject

Cruft
The "type" section of every jutsu, signifying the rank, range, and offensive or defensive nature of the jutsu, is really insignificant. Practically all the information is never noted the series (notable exceptions, Rasengan being A-rank for instance), and when it is, it can be noted for that particular jutsu. A note to Blue eyes comment. The unnamed first shinobi mentioned by Jiraiya also possessed the Rinnegan. Just because Pain in the only one shown to have it thus far doesn't mean its unique to him in any way. 134.121.250.173 (talk) 00:24, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
Concerning this...
Since Kakashi Hatake is able to perform the technique without taking off his mask, it can be assumed that the fire does not originate from inside the mouth.
1. I remember somewhere that you breath in some air, then exhale fire... Never mind this one... I misunderstood... sorry.
2. We cannot assume that Kakashi didn't remove his mask... after all we're talking about the guy who finished his ramen in 2 seconds! Ray93 22:22, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Old'd
Remember this discussion? It eventually dealt with the fact that there are too many jutsu lists and set out to fix the problem? If you haven't, jutsu details have been moved to the entries of the characters who use them, a task that was for the most part completed a few moths ago. The final step dealt with compiling whatever was left into a list that could be linked to, something I've finally gotten around to finishing. The outcome, seen here, I had intended to move to something along the lines of "List of recurring jutsu in Naruto", though I can easily imagine that being AfD'd. To skip that nasty step I thought relocating the information here would be simpler. Thoughts on the idea? Or anything else in particular? I don't imagine the redirecting of the eight articles this list covers would create problems, but I tend to be wrong about the attachment people have to such things. ~SnapperTo 19:26, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- Merging it here would be fine. Size isn't an issue and it's better than having seven or so odd lists that attract vandalism and anons by the truckload. Meh, this brings back memories - I never got around to finishing this. Oh well, good job Snapper. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 19:32, 3 September 2007 (UTC)
- The merger is all fine and good I guess but can someone provide my a link to all the merged pages for info reasons?--TheUltimate3 22:09, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Ok, now I am getting mad.
There is a reason for the images and the lists. Now, unless someone is planing on doing a full wika somewhere else with everything listed in it, then you can't Get rid of the other information. Just like the plot page, and the individual character page. You don't get rid of anything unless it's somewhere else already. GOT IT! --Shadow 18:38, 9 September 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, we can get rid of anything so long as it contradicts Wikipedia policy or consensus decides in favor of doing so. This page removes the problem of having a half-dozen lists that attract vandalism by the truckload, and are essentially a collection of indiscriminate information. This merges them under a notable topic. In any case, read WP:CIVIL and WP:NPA before making such a statement. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 19:07, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

- Extremely disappointed to find all the useful information about the series on Wikipedia has been deleted for no good reason. Wikipedia was the best source of information about Naruto, and in the last few months it has unnecessarily made itself one of the worst. Detailed and useful information on characters and jutsu does not constitute a "plot summary", nor a "list of Frequently Asked Questions", nor "statistics", nor does it qualify under trivia. "Collection of indiscriminate information" is at best being bent to justify a very disappointed trimming; it is certainly not a relevant rule normally. 86.131.227.197 10:16, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- But it this way: If we hadn't merged that stuff where we could keep it nicely (I.E. Lists or merged topics or some sort) than the chances are VERY likely that it would have been deleted and that would have screwed everyone over would it.--TheUltimate3 10:51, 10 September 2007 (UTC)

- One there is still the Naruto Wiki, that will be the "non-opinionated" source of info once more people come to help us along. - Would it be possible to make a Naruto Portal and place the lists there? I for one found Wikipedia a great source of information regarding the jutsu lists. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nukedoom (talk • contribs) 03:43, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Hmmm... another solution.
Instead of dumping all the jutsu here, why instead don't we add them all together, and a few more, into a topic like List of notable jutsu in Naruto or something, where we could talk more about the techniques than somewhere like here? As for the jutsu-in-general information, well, we could put it in the Naruto universe article I've started on. The tailed beast article has little hope at all for staying, Akatsuki (Naruto) is too common a target, Naruto ninja ranks can be shortened down very easily, and Naruto geography is terrible on its own. We could just merge all four together in one article about the entire Naruto universe, not just the geography or one specific detail of it. For the Akatsuki members and the Tailed Beasts, however, all I can think of is putting them in List of Naruto characters, and to try adding other characters there as well. Artist Formerly Known As Whocares 20:50, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- Look at GA-class articles such as World of Final Fantasy VIII and Ivalice as reference points. Although I agree that those articles definitely need to be merged, as there is almost no chance of them staying up under WP:FICT's purview, I would like to see a finished product first. Then we can clean it up and perform a proper merger. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 01:38, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

Why the hell did you remove the lists?
I did brought back all the lists to "it's rightful state of being" because they were completely obliviated! I constantly consult these lists! Having them removed would be a very big mistake. I think hey were really, really useful, and, unless they're moved to NarutoWiki and the pages are properly linked to there, they should remain intact. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.29.71.112 (talk) 18:29, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
- If you want to move them to a Wiki, go ahead. Just go to the page, click "Histories", and click the ones that isn't a redirect. DO NOT, however, bring them back, it was judged by a discussion (on this talk page) that we should get rid of them. Artist Formerly Known As Whocares 19:16, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

You know, you could all try looking up the character that uses the jutsu and see if you can find out what you want to know that way. That is, after all, where most of the information was moved to. ~SnapperTo 02:51, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- I have to wonder why solid information like what the Naruto articles used to be is under scrutiny while poorly-written garbage like the Underworld (film) pages are untouched, and why the Bleach (manga) articles - even the ones that were consolodated - have so many images. Ahem. "Concensus" has been cited repeatedly as the reason for the deletion of the lists. However, one person suggesting that changes be made, one person agreeing, and no official poll, or discussion on the matter, is NOT A CONCENSUS. You are in clear violation of the proper procedure for this type of article modification (changing frequently referenced and useful information sources into redirects because people MIGHT vandalize it, is not a logical or valid argument. If you removed every article that MIGHT be vandalized, there would be no Wikipedia. Period). Might I suggest, if you are so concerned that the articles might be vandalized, that you request protection against new or unregistered users? And since the information contained in the Jutsu lists is actually used by people as reference material, a lot of work was put into collating and verifying the information, and efforts have consistently been made to be rid of vandalism, throwing away everyone's work, and effectively giving in to those who vandalized, by allowing them to eliminate useful information sources, is not acceptable. Also, you seem to not be entirely familiar with what constitutes an indiscriminate collection of information. Familiarize yourself, please. Daishokaioshin 06:59, 15 September 2007 (UTC)
- User:Snapper2 decided to be bold and merge the lists, which were all suitable for deletion under Wikipedia: Notability (fiction), and instead put them into a more inclusive article that standards a greater chance of satisfying the aforementioned requirement. There never needs to be an "official poll" of any sort (polls are evil), and consensus rides in the absence of significant opposition. There has been no argument for reinstating the former lists aside from WP:ILIKEIT, which is not acceptable. It is irrelevant how "useful" the material is or how much work was put into the material in light of the fact that none of the lists could pass WP:FICT. Merging them to reduce the amount of vandalism is merely icing on the cake for the decision. Familiarize yourself with Wikipedia:Civility and Wikipedia:No personal attack before resulting to insults against other users also please. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 07:09, 15 September 2007 (UTC)

Damnit people read the disscussion before you rant! I will tell it once more, before I rename this topic it my answer: IT WAS MERGED BECAUSE MOST OF IT WAS (IN ESSENCE) CRUFT! IF WE KEPT THE CRUFT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DELETED SO WE (AS IN THE PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY TAKE THE TIME TO EDIT THE ARTICLES) DID THE ONLY REASONABLE OPTION LEFT TO US AND MERGED THE IMPORTANT ONES AND MOVED THE SPECIFIC CHARACTER ONCES TO SPECIFIC CHARACTERS. Got that? Everyone understand? Alright, we're not going to complain about it anymore. That gets nothing done. If you have a problem, present it reasonably, so we can use these pages as they should be for, discussion. Alright? Understood. Ok then.--TheUltimate3 02:03, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- First off thank you for such a speedy response to my "rant." Second after reading your high and mighty paragraph I eagerly checked your page but did not find and indication that you have the right to order me around (if it was hidden somewhere I apologize). The problem I seem to find is how some 5+ pages of information were merged into various lists, as most characters no longer have their own articles, (but that’s a rant for another day) without their seeming to be any change at all to character's information. Also, how is it that "CRUFT" (whatever the hell that means) has been around for so long without a major problem and suddenly it must be immediately deleted? Finally the fact that you feel you can order me around because you feel you have contributed so much to Naruto on Wikipedia means nothing to me. This is because almost all of the Naruto articles are embroiled in conflict or have been deleted, sorry "merged." (tag your it!) -- JayStream12 02:32, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- You're right I don't have the right to order you to do anything. However, like I said it would help if some people who wish to rant (Like yourself) would read the discussions before making a long or semi-long rant that I have to waste my God given time to read and reply to and instead give us something to work with. That being said while I don't know the actual it would be wise to check WP:Cruft for the definition of cruft, but from what I have managed to gather, cruft is essentially stuff that is only interesting for fans, and have no relevence to the actual article in question. Hence, the long lists were lost, instead replaced by recurring jutsus, and the less important jutsus were moved to their characters, where they CAN be kept. And your last point just seems like mindless rambling to me as you jump from telling me my "order" means nothing to you, then you jump to the conflicts of Naruto articles. I personally don't see how these two topics are relevent to each other but whatever.--TheUltimate3 02:46, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- My request for a "quick Who &Why" was mostly laziness so I’m sorry. I was not aware someone was going to hold a knife to your throat until you explained the issue to me in a unnecessarily long rant (which I though you hated???. Next, I would like you to give an example of "cruft" that was on those lists if you could, if you like you can consult the copies of the list which are still available on Answers. This way I know exactly what you mean. Of course I have a suspicion of what really happened but I will hold my "tongue" as I may be wrong. -- JayStream12 05:20, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- "Cruft" is defined as something you could not hope to care about unless you are an extremely rabid fan of the material. Saying Dynamic Entry is D-ranked is an example of cruft, as who the hell cares what meaningless designation a simple kick is given? Earth Release: Earth Flow Rampart is another example, since there is no reason why you need to know what the single-use process of creating a hill is called. As for why there is no apparent difference to character entires, that's because the jutsu details were moved there months ago and we never got around to getting rid of the lists. You can find what you want to know there; it might not be referred to by name, but the effect should at least be mentioned assuming it isn't a throwaway technique. ~SnapperTo 05:59, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- My request is that instead of having fire release: great fire ball technique, we could put fire techniques talking first about great fire ball, and then about others, we could also create earth techniques, some of the jutsu info have been deleted from character info and I wanred to know if we could put its rank, note: Im mad about the change happened in the jutsu list now I want to improve this list, see you. ~Tintor2 19:22, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
- Note what the article says: "The following are jutsu that are commonly used throughout the series by more than one character." The majority of fire and earth-based abilities do not have this privilege, and thus their details belong elsewhere. ~SnapperTo 02:02, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- My complaint is that some of the tequniques for minor charters and all havent been put on and i tthink u should make 1 time pages that includes movie jutsu and one time seen 1s by a certain charater its a suggestion but do move the the move the info to movie chraters most (notable).Blanknothingoknaruto 22:46, 16 September 2007 (UTC)Blanknothingoknaruto
- There is no need for such an article. Simply add the missing information wherever it would be most appropriate. ~SnapperTo 02:02, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- Also it is not just minor movie characters that are missing jutsu information. For instance the paragraph on Shino Aburame makes no mention of his Bug Wall, Bug Gathering or Bug Jar Techniques. Apparently the merge was not as thorough as has been claimed. -- JayStream12 19:32, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- Shino's jutsu receive passing mention in his entry and are detailed in this article. ~SnapperTo 21:35, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
- About the great fire ball, we could add that Jiraiya can power-up this jutsu using the oil of Gamabunta. Tintor2 15:08, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
- Isn't it somewhat obvious that you can make a bigger flame by igniting oil? ~SnapperTo 19:04, 22 September 2007 (UTC)
Its also obvious there was no point in removing the jutsu lists. Gune 16:16, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- I hope you know Wikipedia is now dying cause you 'smart' guys think is the right choice to remove and edit things like it is a toy. I actually liked the freaking lists! Fair use rationale for Image:New Puppets EP 7.JPG
Image:New Puppets EP 7.JPG is being used on this article. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Rasengan
Naruto never showed he can now produce the Rasengan with one hand. Please delete or otherwise verify the claim that he can, which by the way also occurs in the Naruto Uzumaki article.
I'd do it, but right now I'm not sure how to articulate how integral Kage Bunshin is for Naruto to perform Rasengan. Basically it's a high level jutsu that Naruto has nonetheless managed to master via a clever workaround or hack: the Kage Bunshin jutsu, which allows him to divide the demanding task into simpler components. One clone for regular Rasengan, two for Futon Rasengan; that is already clear. One would think he would eventually learn to do it with one hand, but actually he doesn't even need to since using Kage Bunshin costs him virtually nothing.
Thanks in advance to the willing editor. --Lionelster 18:39, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- In NARUTO Shippuden, episode 14 when fighting itachi Naruto did demonstrate the ability to do Resengan with one hand. 71.200.36.214 20:02, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- I think you mean episode 13, and I'm not surprised this is the only event cited to support the claim, yet very poorly. Naruto was shown holding a Rasengan charging at Itachi, but not the process of producing it. It's not uncommon for his clone to disappear after completing a Rasengan. Besides, if he has done it once he should be doing it every time since, yet that's not the case. --Lionelster 01:09, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

- SnapperTo's right in the sense that the anime showed exactly what was in the manga: the whole process of forming the Rasengan was skipped, we see Naruto already charging at Itachi with one. That's not proof he formed it with one hand. Do not jump to conclusions. --Lionelster 05:26, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, I've done the revisions myself. They are on articles Rasengan and Naruto Uzumaki#Abilities. Specifics of Rasengan removed from the latter; a link to Rasengan is included in their stead. --Lionelster 06:48, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Edit to Water Techniques
The article currently states that the only known exception to a person using a water jutsu without a preexisting source of water is for Water Wall. However, in chapter 373, Yahiko uses Suiton: Mizuranppa (Water Release: Chaotic Waves) from his mouth. This is debatable because it was raining at the time that he used it, but I don't think that would count seeing as how it wasn't a large volume of consolodated water and he spit it out, rather than forming it in his hands or the like. 214.13.209.200 13:07, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Stupid question
In the 2nd databook in the shiki fujin article it says the only user is sarutobi hokage, maybe minato is not there because it wasnt seen but in the rasengan page it puts minato as an user maybe what minato taught sarutobi was how to summon the death god, but Jiraiya mentons minato used the shiki fujin(chapter 370 more or less). Can sby explain this? ~Tintor2 10:41, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
- In the second databook, Sarutobi was the only listed user. The databook lists are not meant to be complete. –Gunslinger47 20:58, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

- We could try and move on from this set back, use the Naruto Wiki (which unless you choose to be a vandal of a theif, I encourage) OR you could sit around and cry about what can't be helped. I like to choose the first 2.--TheUltimate3 14:31, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
- Couldn't we put the merge the information and condense it in the Jutsu page? σмgнgσмg 01:01, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- The ones used by more than a single person should be here. The others are placed at that person's section in the lists, like Pein or Ranmaru or Haku. Only the Sharingan, Byakugan, and tree thing are used by more than one person. It's also possible to put each on the clan's section in the Land of Fire. Either way, such information is too valuable to delete like it was. Artist Formerly Known As Whocares 02:17, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
- If anything, the Rinnegan could be mentioned-and/or-detailed in Peins section. We could simply reword the Gentle Fist section into the Byakugan, add the Sharingan, with mention of Itachi's M-Sharingan in his section, and Kakashi's in his article, the Wood Release with Yamato, and the other Kekkei Genkai's could go with their respective characters.--TheUltimate3 02:33, 9 November 2007 (UTC)
Sharingan
At the moment, there is no mention made of the Sharingan, which has played a major role in the series, moreso than several of the technique listed. In fact, following the merge of Kekkei Genkai with this article, there seem to be no specific kekkei genkai listed here at all. Should several of the major techniques from this category, such as the eye techniques and possibly Mokuton be added to this page? 24.24.90.148 01:49, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
- User:TheUltimate3/Kekkei Genkai a archive, save the images. Merge the Byakugan with the Gentle Fist section, add the Sharingan, and probably move the Mokuton in the article and/or in the Yamato section.--TheUltimate3 02:16, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
Mangekyo makes you blind?
When was it said that "It has also been implied that use of the Mangekyo Sharingan may deteriorate the user's normal eyesight" ? Is it a speculation? Tintor2 22:49, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
- During the encounter between Itachi's clone and Kakashi's team, Kakashi asks Itachi how bad his eyesight has become shortly after a long discussion on Itachi's abilities with the Mangekyo Sharingan. Itachi's surprise, in addition to his following statement, which implies Itachi's knowledge of Kakashi's Mangekyo, solidifies this thought. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 00:24, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- I read that chapter of manga in spanish, but from what Kakashi said I could only deduced that Itachi uses too much chakra for the Mangekyo. Tintor2 00:49, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
- Then you need to read a better translation. His eyesight is said to be failing. — Someguy0830 (T | C) 01:05, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Wait, I watched that episode. Yes it may be true. Tintor2 01:06, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
Possible GA run
Given that I stumbled upon conception information for jutsu, this article could possibly have a GA run. That said, the biggest thing that needs to be found is reception. Merchandise of the characters performing jutsu, their presence in video games, and other media is one set of items. Reviews of individual episodes often comment on jutsu, and can be used to produce a reception section. As for the in-universe material, anything that isn't horribly necessary should be removed. The remaining material should be sourced. Mind you, <ref>''Naruto'' manga; [chapter number], [page number]</ref> is not acceptable in this case. The relevant citation template is {{cite book}}. However, the former method of citation is fine at the moment until it can be properly sourced. It at least allows us to verify where it is. Specifics can come later. Anyhow, we can get this to GA status. It simply will require a bit of effort. Sephiroth BCR (Converse) 01:31, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what kind of reception there would be aside from offhand comments. Jutsu don't strike me as the type of thing any kind of publication would take a critical look at. Rasengan and/or Chidori might have received some peculiar analysis at some point in time, though I've no idea where that would be. In any event, I'd be happy to replace inadequate citations with {{cite book}} equivalents, or even look for inadequate citations to get the ball rolling. ~SnapperTo 04:56, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
Sharinwhere?
What happened to the image of the Sharingan? I think its one of the most important things of the series and Kakashi is always seen by his Sharingan. If we put the Kugutsu, the gentle fist stance, Mangekyo of Kakashi etc, why we dont use the image of the Sharingan? And I wanted to say that this page its better than that old list, so I retract of what I said before, speciallly yo Snapper that I said to him that.(offtopic) Tintor2 10:48, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
What the fuck is that??!!??!!
Who the hell deleted the list of Jutsu??!! What is this crap??!! Are you fucking stupid or somethin??!! Wikipedia is shit now!! My grandmother would do better site than this fuckin piece of crap!! Fix this shit you fucking fools!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.20.14.40 (talk) 16:12, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
- 1) Be f-ing bold. It won't help you here but thats the reason this place is a Wiki. 2) No personal attacks. Really it makes you look like an idiot. 3) Learn to read what's already posted above. If you can't do steps 1-3, then I suggest moving on to step 4) Go to Leafninja.com they have all the jutsu's in their origianl japanese names--TheUltimate3 (talk) 16:19, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:ShinoBugXray.jpg
Image:ShinoBugXray.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Redirections.
If you merge articles (argh +,...+) you should correct all redirections. It's a bit strange when I type "Gamabunta" and it leads me here.--Deerstop (talk) 01:47, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Kakashi's Mangekyo sharingan
isn't it possible that Kakashi has gotten the mangekyo before the events of part one and then Itachi was referring to him when he said there would be three people capable of using it as it may have been that he had it but just didn't use it, as for I know there no where were is implied that he doesn't have it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Shadow Silver X (talk • contribs) 13:03, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- When Kakashi first reveals his Mangekyō Sharingan to Naruto, Naruto asks "Is that what you mentioned before?" referring to the scene after the second bell test, where Kakashi boasts about having developed a cool new jutsu.
- So no, Kakashi developed his Mangekyō during the time skip and didn't have it at the time of the Uchiha massacre. JadziaLover (talk) 14:54, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- My opinion is that the third Mangekyo user that Itachi was referring to was probably Madara Uchiha, mentioned in Shippuuden episode 1 and onwards. It definitely couldn't have been Kakashi, as Itachi didn't know Kakashi had the Mangekyo, or at least didn't suspect it, until Kakashi fought the Itachi clone. I think Madara Uchiha is supposed to be revealed later in Shippuuden. I also heard a rumor that one of the Akatsuki referred to himself as Madara... Anonymous 14:54, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
- According to the latest chapter, Itachi is indeed referring to Madara. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.249.52.151 (talk) 01:06, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
