[edit]First off, it appears to have been signed into law, having been passed unanimously in the Senate and by voice vote in the House.
At any rate, from [the FCC]:
- Junk Fax Prevention Act of 2005
- On July 9, 2005, Congress enacted the Junk Fax Prevention Act. The Act amends the TCPA by permitting businesses or entities to send unsolicited advertisements to consumers and businesses with whom the sender has an established business relationship. It also requires senders of fax advertisements to include a notice and contact information on the first page of the fax informing the recipient how to “opt-out” of any future fax advertisements from the sender.
- The Act directs the FCC to issue regulations to implement these amendments no later than April 5, 2006.
I've looked at the bill text in Thomas and indeed there is a new loophole that does not appear to be present in the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991.
Has there been any major criticism of this law, such as there has been for the CAN-SPAM Act (e. g. "U CAN SPAM Act")? --Guppy313 23:52, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
Changes
[edit]Added much to it to reduce it from a stub, including the major effects and criticism. Also included some history. Much of this might also be useful on the page for the TCPA. 69.208.114.2 18:08, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
