Alternating-possession rule

[edit]

Wendyhammond (talk) 18:35, 23 January 2009 (UTC)There needs to be a page (or at least a section) on the alternating-possession rule, efforts to improve it, etc. 66.234.222.96 (talk) 16:42, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What about the jump ball that kids use that has a handle and they bounce around. That is also called a jump ball. Wendyhammond (talk) 18:35, 23 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This rule is lame. 155.33.158.204 (talk) 03:31, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Held ball

[edit]

I'm removing the split-screen illustration. The player is forcing a HELD BALL, not a jump ball. There would not have been a jump ball after this play. FullnessOfTime (talk) 04:37, 29 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rule for beginning of each period

[edit]

The article includes a section about the possession arrow, and is also the redirect target for Possession arrow, yet there is no information about how each league determines which team has the ball at the beginning of each period.

In leagues which use the possession arrow, the arrow determines possession for the beginning of periods (after the 1st period) (except overtime).

In the NBA, the team that lost the jump ball for 1st period gets the ball for 2nd and 3rd period, and the team that won gets the ball for 4th period.

But I don't know the rules for other leagues that don't use the arrow, so I wouldn't be able to add that information to the article. --107.77.235.150 (talk) 19:19, 12 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
