Name game
[edit]We have an entry on Joseph Julien Monette also User:KylieTastic. Which name is correct? Merge that entry into the fuller one here? FloridaArmy (talk) 17:31, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
- FloridaArmy oh damn missed that one.
- Most sources just use "J. J. Monette"
- "Freedom's Lawmakers" uses "Monette, Julien J."
- "Biographical Sketches of Members of the 1868 Louisiana State Senate" uses "Julien J. Monette" (and "J. J. Monette")
- newspapers.com has zero hits for "Joseph Julien Monette" but still only 2 for "Julien J. Monette"
- "The Origins of Black Leadership in New Orleans During Reconstruction" https://doi.org/10.2307/2206492 uses "Julien J. Monette"
- Jstor has not hits for "Joseph Julien Monette" but 3 valid ones for "Julien J. Monette"
- The source https://www.ravellaw.com/opinions/d97f4cffb508d986b8b97af53fed815f on Joseph Julien Monette is dead to me
- So is it just the source "Mister Jelly Roll: The Fortunes of Jelly Roll Morton, New Orleans Creole and "Inventor of Jazz" on Joseph Julien Monette that used that name
- Also that same source uses "Julien J. Monette" as well! https://www.google.co.uk/books/edition/Mister_Jelly_Roll/rjYqu9miuOwC?hl=en&gbpv=1&dq=%22Julien+J.+Monette%22+1836+-+1886&pg=PA327&printsec=frontcover
- So I think this one is the correct one and anything missing should be merged in and Joseph Julien Monette redirect as alt name. KylieTastic (talk) 17:45, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
- What does the J. stand for? It's my fault because I didn't include alternative name links. FloridaArmy (talk) 17:50, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
- Here and Here's are sources for the legal battle for his father's estate. FloridaArmy (talk) 18:05, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
- FloridaArmy None of the sources I found gave the full name, it well could be Joseph and that was the source of the mix up in the "Jelly Roll Morton" source... time to search for "Julien Joseph Monette". Another jazz source http://www.doctorjazz.co.uk/genealogy.html uses it and I sound a news source https://www.newspapers.com/clip/96083343/court-decision-regarding-julien-monette/ KylieTastic (talk) 18:06, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
