Playing status

If a 39-year-old hasn't played professionally in the past 2.5 years, surely it's far-fetched to assume that he's no longer a player? Obviously he could technically decide to sign for some Sunday league team in the future. But at what age and inactivity do you draw the line and decide to describe him as a former footballer? Does he really have to publically announce his retirement? Thoughts? OscarL 15:21, 3 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
