It was not a massacre

[edit]

Just as I explained on another page, this event should not be considered a massacre. The deaths occurred in a context of violent confrontations where a policeman burned by protesters was also killed. Calling it a massacre is an exaggeration of the situation. I propose to change the name of the article Violence in Puno, mainly because this happens in something that goes beyond Juliaca Paolo Gutarra (talk) 02:32, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Some mainstream reliable sources refer to this as a massacre and it fits the description. This article is about this shooting by police. The protests are covered in 2022–2023 Peruvian political protests. Jim Michael 2 (talk) 12:31, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Agreeing with Jim Michael 2, this is sourced as a massacre and mainly discusses the killing of civilians by police.--WMrapids (talk) 02:52, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not a massacre. In the Spanish version is being avoided. 2A04:EE41:7:6028:9459:A0A3:1231:87A1 (talk) 23:52, 23 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Could you please stop changing the title of this article? There is no use of massacre in the Peruvian media nor well know international news outlets. This is being changed by politically motivated persons, please Stop. 2A04:EE41:7:6028:9459:A0A3:1231:87A1 (talk) 11:10, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Massacre is a commonly-used term in WP & elsewhere. This article includes reliable, mainstream sources in both English & Spanish which describe these killings as a massacre. The French & Portuguese WP articles also use massacre in their titles. It easily fits the definition & calling it an incident is ridiculously euphemistic considering the double digit death toll & is far too vague. Massacres sometimes occur during protests, and we have similarly named articles in similar circumstances, including the 2022 Zahedan massacre in Iran. biased language.

[edit]

I'm going to skip the other parts and focus on the so-called Ayacucho massacre: The article says that the protesters simply "approached" the airport and the police just started shooting at them, when what happened is that the protesters tried to take the airport and the police responded: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gxLucTEXVjw 186.32.217.52 (talk) 00:13, 26 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
