Birth name

Can you link to a version of the article in which this reference was present? I haven't been able to find it white looking through the (fairly short) history of the article. ~Mable (chat) 13:29, 24 June 2017 (UTC)

Birth name (redux)

Julia Kaye's deadname has been added to the article repeatedly recently. However, there is no good reason for it to be.

WP:BLPPRIVACY says potentially private names can be added to articles if they have been widely published by reliable sources, or by sources linked to the subject such that it may reasonably be inferred that the subject does not object to the details being made public. Neither criterion has been met in this case. MOS:DEADNAME says In the case of transgender and non-binary people, birth names should be included in the lead sentence only when the person was notable under that name. This criterion has not been met, either.

Kaye was not notable, by Wikipedia standards, before she came out as transgender. The only quasi-reliable, secondary source I've seen from before she came out is a very short blurb from a Mashable blog from 2013. Furthermore, the way Kaye censors her deadname in this Twitter post post and this one makes it clear that she is not comfortable with the name being disseminated. I've also looked through, as best I could, her only published book, Super Late Bloomer, a personal work that covers her transition in detail. I don't have access to the full work, but didn't see any indication that it ever mentions her deadname.

Just because a piece of information is somewhat "out there" does not mean it is appropriate to include. Wikipedia is a megaphone, and we have to wield it with restraint. Per WP:BLP, protecting the privacy and dignity of living people is one of our most important responsibilities as editors. WanderingWanda (talk) 02:41, 12 March 2020 (UTC)

Edit war

IPs have been continually re-adding Kaye's deadname to the article without explanation. I've made my case for why I think this goes against WP:BLP. No one has presented any alternative arguments. I ask the IPs that apparently feel strongly about this to make their case on this talk page. I will request page protection. WanderingWanda (talk) 18:03, 25 March 2020 (UTC)

Tweet i.r.t. lesbian

Just noting this tweet (archived) by Julia (https://twitter.com/upandoutcomic) where she specifically notes that "ive never used the term [lesbian] to describe myself- i'm but a humble queer woman lol", before asking "can a tweet be cited? or do i need to mention it in a written interview or something?" — I see that some changes have already been made, but just linking to the tweet for the future in case it needs to be referenced or something ^^ — TNT (talk • she/her) 19:37, 9 June 2022 (UTC)
