Origins

There is no charter which names him as Juhel de Mayenne. It is only that some people, probably erroneously, have identified him with a possible Juhel de Mayenne. For a full discussion of his origins see the article "Judhael of Totnes" in Anglo-Norman Studies XVI: Proceedings of the Battle Conference, 1993 by John Bryan Williams.
