Jughead is a gourmand?
As a consequence of his eating habits, Jughead is also a preferred customer on most of Riverdale's food establishments, and a very respected food critic.
- I can't remember seeing him eat in any restaurant other than Pop Tate's ice cream and burger joint. And when did anyone ever regard Jughead as being more than a gourmand? --Ed Poor
- I've seen Jughead eat at a pizza shop in an episode where he wins 500 free pizza slices.
Weird
Also, I wouldn't call him "the weird one". Dilton Doiley also avoids girls: that's one similarity. There is an even balance between the two girl crazy ones: Archie & Reggie -- and the two boys who aren't: Jughead (likes food), Dilton (likes math & science).
- We should also mention that Big Ethel is always pursuing her "Juggie".
- Hm, if I know so much about it, I guess I should write up the whole crew:
- Archie
- Betty
- Veronica
- Reggie
- Big Moose
- Jughead
- Big Ethel
- Dilton
- Mr. Weatherbee
- Mrs. Grundy
- Prof. Flutesnoot -- wow, can't believe I remember his name!
- Pop Tate
- Sabrina
Chocolat Shoppe or Chok'lit Shoppe?
I thought the proper spelling was Chok'lit Shoppe, though my memory may be faulty on that.
- The official website lists it as the Chock'lit Shoppe (with the apostrophe apparently optional) ... it's had a number of variants with different writers over the years though ...
Jughead's name origin?
some web sources said that he got it from his dad; Forsthye Jones JR II, but other sources also mentions that he got it from an uncle who fought in the Revolutionary War. And Jellybean got it from him. his dad name supposedly is Timothy. which one is the correct one? HoneyBee
- I believe early stories did use Timothy for his dad, however the official Archie Comics position is now that he's Forsythe Pendleton Jr ... (hardly the first time a character's less prominent name has been changed in the stories - I suspect the writer was simply unaware of the early story in most cases)--Invisifan 10:59, 22 July 2006 (UTC)
- thanks! someone should edit juggie dad's name or add the info about the name. HoneyBee
- I've been thinking that there should be a "Parents of Archie's gang" article ... The Andrews, Coopers & Jones' all are common recurring characters but have no articles at all (and while the Lodges do, Hermione Lodge hardly warrants a separate one) — something along the lines of the Riverdale High School "Staff" section ... any thoughts?--Invisifan 10:28, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- Someone needs to delete the nonsense about a TV series in the 1940s, or make sure what they are referring to is the radio series.
What the "S" stands for
I know it's never said exactly what the "S" on his sweater/shirt stands for, but there's a comic called "Letter Perfect" I happened to read while on the can the other day about Mr. Weatherbee telling Archie and Jughead about how they're paying extra just to advertise for the big name brands they're wearing. The punchline of the strip is that Ms. Grundy asks Mr. Weatherbee if Archie and Jughead have "changed schools", because instead of "R" and "S" being on Archie and Jughead's clothing respectively, there were their initials, "A" and "J". Just thought this was interesting. The book I saw it reprinted in was "Jughead's Doulble Digest No. 64" if anyone cares. I figured I was supposed to know what S meant and had forgotten since I haven't picked one of these up in a while, but apparently it IS a mystery. But this should at least give a clue. I'm sure it stood for something in the first place. - Nickoten 20:47, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
- In the text under his photo, it gives a description of what the "S" stands for according to a single comment. Meanwhile, further down the article we find that the answer to the mystery has yet to be solved, and the article already contradicts itself. Because the Archie Universe is known to have a gazillion contradictions in respect to continuity factors, would anyone object to removing the "explanation" underneath the picture? Dated look
Should any comments be made about Jughead's dated look? His felt crown really keeps him in the 50s. --68.103.154.140 03:54, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
Hal Stone
The Hal Stone this page linked to was NOT the Harlan Stone who played Jughead on radio (I removed the link); born Harold Stone, his name was changed to avoid conflicts with Harold J. Stone when he joined the cast of Life with Father - his character's name was Harlan, and his mother took, as he described it, "the easy way out." He always hated "Harlan" (he thought it was "sissy"), and went by Hal. He signed photos and books "Hal (Harlan) Stone."
He passed away this past Wednesday, February 21, 2007 at the age of 75. I will have an audio/video tribute posted sometime in the next few days on the Nostalgic Rumblings website, and many tributes have been made by readers of the Internet OTR Digest, where Hal was a frequent contributor. --Charlie Summers 71.254.201.69 18:20, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
Comic book cover
From when is the comic book cover? It looks old, like 40's or 50's... 惑乱 分からん 18:54, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- Based on the issue # it would be 1953-1954 ...--Invisifan 22:19, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
- OK, worth mentioning... Thanks! 惑乱 分からん 22:29, 23 February 2007 (UTC)
Merge Suggestion
I think this article should be merged with Jughead Jones. I really don't see that there's a reason for giving him his own page - we can't really say a lot more about him that what's already been said, and it would fit better with the main Jughead Jones article. Oldiesmann 19:15, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
The Matchakers Story line ?
New article (like Bad Boy Trouble) or new part of this article?--Brown Shoes22 (talk) 07:03, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
Jughead's full name
In addition to "Forsythe Van Jones II", JJ is also referred to as "Jughead Van Jones" in a "Gag Bag" reprint from Betty & Veronica #266. Two exclamation marks come just after the name. Asat (talk) 06:33, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
Headline text
Jughead's Sexual Orientation I understand that Archie Comics are for children and known to be rather conservative, however it seems pretty clear to me that Jughead Jones is homosexual. Don't get me wrong; I'm 24 years old and have been reading these comics since I was an infant. I am not writing this as an insult. Even in elementary school, I already thought it was strange that a 17 (16?) year old heterosexual boy would not be interested in girls. My guess is that within the next 20-25 years or so, when homosexuality becomes acceptable in America, Jughead will fully come out of the closet. Why is there no speculation of Jughead's homosexuality in this article. Is that because this is a children's article. I am curious. Upsiditus
- because Archie comics are mostly aimed to young children where sexual orientation is not a subject. jughead's sex orientation (whether he's gay or straight) is mostly coming from fans speculation. the writers never intended to put anything sexual in the story. and recent comic storylines depicts jughead dating with girls, even with betty, although he's not a womanizer like archie. dilton doiley also hardly interested in girls, because science is his passion -- just like jughead's passion is food. unless you have resources to support this speculation, it is unlikely to be put in the article. HoneyBee
- I do not think that Jug is a homosexual. Like HoneyBee said, Dilton is not interested in girls, and no one is accusing him. I truly think that Jughead sees nothing interesting in girls, much like I do. I'm not seventeen (I'm younger), though. ~Zack 74.12.214.214 (talk) 16:49, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
- Speculation is not encyclopaedic. Efficacious (talk) 00:34, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

- I agree that "orientation" is not part of young children's reading, but clearly Archie, Reggie, Betty, Veronica, Moose, Midge, etc. would be considered "heterosexual" now wouldn't they? I'm sure they would. And as far as no one "accusing Dilton" I distinctly remember several stories where he tries to go out with girls, but it's explained that he is shy and "uncool" and such. This was not true with Jughead until the late 1980s, when gays were becoming more visible, so the writers realized if they didn't have Jughead going after girls, he would be "accused" of being gay. If anyone reading this can remember back in the 1980s when the AIDS scare began, they had on the back of the comics, I believe Mr. Weatherbee giving a lecture and the kids are sitting at desks. Notice that Jughead is particularly paying attention and smiling, keying in to the fact that he couldn't possibly have the disease. This was again to quell the "gay rumors." Jughead stopped chasing girls in the early 1990s or so because the readers found it "unnatural" (gee, I wonder why....).The explanation given ("he would be too much like Archie" doesn't wash, Reggie goes after girls too, and he isn't "too much like Archie").76.241.84.71 (talk) 23:43, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
- Did any of the above people stop to think that Jughead is perhaps asexual... that is, just not interested in sex? Could be hormones, could be a condition like Asperger's, or maybe, just maaaaaaaybe, the story about his childhood crush detailed in the page could be true, or he just hasn't met the right girl? Zephyrad (talk) 14:53, 12 August 2009 (UTC)
- Jughead isn't a woman-hater. He just dislikes the way that women make men behave. Archie turns into a drooling lump when girls appear. Jughead finds it undignified. I think he'd be a late starter and probably find someone that was suited to him, male or female, when he's older. Just my impression. Teobi (talk) 20:32, 18 November 2010 (UTC)
- The most recent issue of Jughead confirms he is asexual. [1] I take offense at the comment by Upsitidus that because a male does not show an interest in women that it becomes clear the person is gay. This is the kind of prejudice asexual men have always faced.Eddietheace (talk) 19:35, 16 February 2016 (UTC)
