Can somebody break this article into several sections, to make for easier reading?

Everton

[edit]

Strong rumours he will move there if not in Jan in the summer in the britsh press. Should this be on the main page?

REPLY - Yes it should, he will be joining them in the Summer for a reported £8million.

No. These are unsubstantiated rumours. On July 16, 2007 User:Hudders2000 restored his comment on a possible move to Everton and referenced this [article] as proof. If you read the article you'll see that it says noting of the kind, but instead it is said in readers comments section. Certainly a magazine reader's opinion is not a valid source. Table of goals

[edit]

Is it really redundant to have a table of goals per season?

The current scheme has only goals per team, so if the player stays 3 seasons in one team we know how many matches and goals he had in those 3 years, but not for the season specifically.

Options are:

  1. Keep both (table, and infobox)
  2. Put the data in the info-box season by season
  3. loose the data and have lees information.

Mariano(t/c) 15:51, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Is it ok if I go with 3? Is it really that relevant? --Sebastian Kessel Talk 15:55, 4 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

National team

[edit]

Roman's first match in the national team wasn't in 2004, but in 1999. May be in the American cup, or before, but not in 2004. Actually he made his debut on november 16, 1997 under coach Daniel Passarella. he entered the game at the 80min, against Colombia. It was the final game of the South American world cup qualifier. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Fran loyd (talk • contribs) 14 January 2006, 22:52.

You're right, hi played at the 1999 Copa America. [1] Mariano(t/c) 09:13, 16 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Romy, Roman, Riquelme

[edit]

Can we use 'Riquelme' instead of 'Romy' and 'Riquelme'? It's inconsistent. Maybe add a "He's affectionately known as Romy" etc. And any idea why/when he changed from putting 'Riquelme' to 'Roman' on his jersey? And is it important enough to reflect that on the page?

I don't think it's relevant. He was known as "Roman" because he was frequently mentioned as Juan ROMAN Riquelme by commentators with "Roman" very emphasized. --200.82.107.250 (talk) 15:03, 7 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

POV

[edit]

The paragraph on unfair pressure on him to perform leading to the loan move sound rather POV. I edited it slightly to get rid of that. But I don't really have the facts leading to the move. Is it poor form, inability to fit into tactical system, too many players who can play in the same position etc?

I have also had to edit some of the obvious POV in this article, most blatant bit was where it said the main reason Argentina became joint favourites in the World cup 2006 was because of Riquelme Mr. mister 16:07, 3 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Boca Loan

[edit]

Can somebody add his Boca Loan info.. Good info on his fall from grace here..

The end is nigh for a player unable to cross great divide

Club signing speculation

[edit]

Can we stop the speculation on where, when and if he will sign with another club?

In the last few days there has been a flood of speculative posts that he'll sign for Everton and Atlético Madrid to name two. Why don't we wait until he actually signs something? This is an encyclopedia, not a sports magazine. See: WP:NOT#CBALL Alexf(t/c) 12:15, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. eae 23:22, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protect?

[edit]

Does it make sense to semi-protect this article until the Everton/Atletico/whoever nonsense dies down and/or Riquelme officially signs with a club and that info can be verified? eae 19:48, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is warranted. Alexf(t/c) 14:06, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
D-U-N done. eae 21:36, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I semi-protected the page for two weeks. If any of the signing rumors turn out to be true before then please remind me to remove it. Thanks. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 07:35, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

International Goals

[edit]

I put together that big table of goals for Riquelme but I have had a tough time trying to find the totals per year for his international goals. You can see the question marks in the table. If someone could help me out with the research it would be appreciated. Or if you have a better idea let me know. Thanks Birdy (talk) 18:05, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ray Hudson

[edit]

It's not really notable enough for the article as yet, but just in case British football commentator Ray Hudson becomes a big star, it's worth recording his affection for Riquelme; describing him as a "big beautiful zombie" and just generally loving him. -Ashley Pomeroy (talk) 20:21, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Table

[edit]

It would seem his table of Club Statistics is messed up? -Lushhhhhhhh (talk) 16:21, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A Bit of Help Please

[edit]

Just did a significant excision of peacock language and removed all of Riquelme's Argentine club history since 2008. This contained NO citations, and was written like a PR piece. If you have access to a documented history of Riquelme since 2008, could you please jump in. Anyone! Thanx. Tapered (talk) 04:41, 20 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Error

[edit]

Riquelme still didn't leave Boca.. Argentine side Boca Juniors have not given up hope of convincing Juan Roman Riquelme to remain at the club. Boca in bid to convince Riquelme to stay. Riquelme said he will ask his family if they want him to keep playing in Boca. Is undefined if he stays or goes... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 186.18.22.95 (talk) 09:52, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Inconsistency regarding international caps

[edit]

It is stated in the lead that Riquelme played 57 times for the senior national team of Argentina, but the number provided in the table is 51. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.91.212.222 (talk) 14:40, 12 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
