A few points (the Charrua were anything but peaceful, had killed previous governors, and burnt every settlement in their territory; &c.) There's much more here, if someone could translate from the Spanish.
Also, at present, it's not clear what the settlement was that was maintained (Sancti Spritus?) or when it was abandonned (the first successful settlement in Uruguay was the Franciscan mission at S. Domingo de Serrano.) -LlywelynII (talk) 13:35, 4 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
