Nicknames are popular in South American football and Izquierdo was nicknamed "Negrón" by his teammates, meaning "Big black guy", if you take it literally. Don't shoot me, I'm just saying what his teammates said, and reported by sources. [1][2][3] While it may be shocking to the Anglosphere, race-based nicknames are common in South America, such as Izquierdo's former manager Álvaro Recoba "El Chino"; we can all remember Luis Suárez and Edinson Cavani having their problems with the culture shift in England.
