Category sorting key

[edit]

I have boldly listed this person as "Jouleibib, El-Hassen Ould Khalill" because the article mostly refers to this person by the last name of "Jouleibib", as if it were a surname. However he is also referred to as "Khalill" on one occasion so I am not absolutely certain if this is the best sort key. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 17:57, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A recent bold page move to the title of Jouleibib, claiming that this person was "more well-known" by this name, has prompted me to dig into the sources for this article more deeply. The existing cited French language sources appear to have been copied from the French article, whose translation is the source for this article's content. No attempt has previously been made to find the equivalent English language sources. After doing some searching, I found that Reuters have an English language story that gives this person's name as Hacene Ould Khalill, and says his nickname, or alias, is "Jouleibib".[1] Several other English language sources give the same name.[2][3] [4][5]. Also, the RFI French language source cited in the article gives this person's name as Hacène Ould Khalill, and that he is better known as "Jouleibib".[6]. Applying the guideline for Wikipedia's Naming conventions for using English titles, particularly that for established usage in English-language sources, this person's name should be rendered in English as either Hacene Ould Khalill or else the article should use his well-known alias or nickname of Jouleibib as an article title, but not both names together, as if these two separate names were all part of the same name because the sources do not use his names that way. The French title, therefore, does not meet Wikipedia's English naming conventions, so a title change is needed, anyway. While this move was not discussed, it is a reasonably understandable move to make. - Cameron Dewe (talk) 05:28, 8 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
