Clarification

Was he the Lord Mayor of London 1810-11? Jackiespeel (talk) 15:15, 3 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I took a look and my conclusion is 'no'.

1) Born 1732 makes him about 78 in 1810 which is getting on a bit.

2) History of Parliament (2nd ref in article) has no mention of his being alderman or mayor. He's a timber merchant, not one of the prestigious trades.

3) Google Books found Smith the mayor in the Worshipful Company of Ironmongers and he died in 1834, so a younger man.

The latter is also mentioned in Notes and Queries, 1894.

Stranger things have happened.

Until there is sufficient information on the Mayor for a WP article perhaps a mention of the London Wiki page [1] will suffice. Jackiespeel (talk) 13:05, 7 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
