I recall at one point reading that he had recieved death threats from Rancid fans after announcing he was with Brody. Am I mistaken, or has this just been removed?

true: http://www.contactmusic.com/new/xmlfeed.nsf/mndwebpages/homme%20blasts%20rancid%20singer%20over%20dalle%20treatment —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.108.182.89 (talk) 15:17, 6 June 2008 (UTC)

Random contd.

On the Jimmy Kimmel Live set, a very pregnant Brody Dalle confirmed that her band the punk four-piece the Distillers are no more. Waiting backstage during a live performance by her fiance, Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, Dalle shrugged, "All things come to an end." So what will the raven-haired singer do next? In her trademark high heels and a white dress that accentuated her belly, Dalle said she'll be focusing on motherhood: Her first child with Homme is due in January . . .

from rolling stone... (Just read this at Kitty Radio, I can not confirm that was really at the RS site though).

not stoner rock

Queens are not Stoner Rock/metal. The band hates the term, too.

married vs engaged?

ok, the distillers new section says about brody "during her hiatus she got married and had a baby".

and this pic looks like he has a wedding ring on.

http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b160/Oliver_Taylor_Hawkins/DAVE%20GROHL/DSC_0005.jpg

im pretty sure hes married to her.

That's a pic with Dave Grohl, and Dave Grohl hasn't been in QotSA since Songs for the Deaf. I'm not so sure that photo can be treated as conclusive. Dead 22:31, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

That pic is recent cos he did the black hair thing sometime in may 2006 i think. also the tats on the fingers are post-songs for the deaf. (yea, its from the mancester gig last month, king sarah)

That's still not enough. To admit the photo as proof would be completely anecdotal. Dead 08:32, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

"Robot Rock"

The article describes his style as "robot rock/alternative" -- he claims he wanted to do "robot rock" (his coined term) -- but has he ever really?

The first QOTSA album is what he would describe as robot rock. Later albums became less robot and more experimental and random, though. Dead 21:10, 7 May 2006 (UTC)

Is he the same guy as Breakfast at Tiffany's from Deep Blue Something?

After I have seen the videoclip of Breakfast at Tiffany's (official soundtrack Breakfast at Tiffany's) I thought that de bass player from the band is the same person as the leadsinger from QOTSA. Is this the same guy?

This used to be in the article, but was removed. The answer is 'no'. Dead 21:23, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

EODM

I think J-Ho still performs with EoDM when he can fit it in. Their current drummer is Gene Trautman, isn't it? I think Josh is always going to be an EoDM member, at least in spirit even if he can't perform with them.--*smb 20:48, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

He's seen drumming in their latest video. Dead 00:37, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Homme vs Blag Dahlia

I think this is an interesting subject. Nick Oliveri used to be a member of The Dwarves (post-Kyuss, pre-Queens), of which Blag Dahlia is the frontman. You can hear Blag's distinct voice on the first track of Songs for the Deaf as the last DJ before the song starts. Blag even sings in Desert Sessions 5, in the track Punk Rock Caveman, although he doesn't appear to be credited. I listen to the Dwarves more often than I probably should and Blag sure shows up a lot in Queens-related stuff. Blag and Oliveri are apparently (still) good friends, and you can spot Oliveri in their FEFU DVD. I wonder what pissed off Homme so much when the had their "scuffle", although knowing Blag, he probably deserved it. --24.93.100.177 02:29, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Discography

As much as filling in all the blanks regarding factuality is an issue, I think expanding the disography is just as imporant. See Lanegan's disography page as a basis.Red157 19:52, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Limp?

I saw Queens of the Stone Age perform for the first time at the Troubador in Hollywood last night -- a very intimate show for Rock Band (video game). Anyway, as he left the stage, someone got him a cane and he limped off. He was even limping across the street after the show.

For some reason, it seemed staged to me, as he was dancing fine during the performance. Could've been adrenaline, though. Can anyone shed light into this? Is it a chronic thing, or a new injury? Or am I right that it's a charade? ViolentLee 17:45, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

It's for real. Check it out:
Queens Of The Stone Age frontman Josh Homme has revealed he desperately needs a knee operation - but won't go under the knife until the band have completed their summer touring commitments.
The frontman, who had surgery on the knee back in 2005, was seen limping badly and using a walking stick at the Oxegen and T In The Park festivals at the weekend. But despite his obvious discomfort, he never had any intention of cancelling the shows.
He told Stereo Warning: "It's (his knee) messed up bad. It hurts. I gotta go home and have surgery again. On stage it hurts a lot.
I have at least 3-4 moments a set where it feels like boulders underwater, when they hit each other. It's the only way I can describe it.
He added: "But what do I do, go home? I gotta finish what I started. Everyone cancels all the time for hurting their finger and stuff like that, that's not me."
The band are currently on a European tour, and are scheduled to begin a North American tour later this month.

Fair enough. I think the former pro wrestler in me is always suspicious of things like that. Thanks for the clarification. ViolentLee 00:22, 18 August 2007 (UTC)

Can someone please site a source for where it says that Josh Homme's favourite album is 'A Night at the Opera'.

Soulsavers?

Is he on tour with the soulsavers right now? saw them tonight at the Black Cat in DC, and either he or his doppelganger was backing up. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.255.206.130 (talk) 05:02, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Queens of the Stone Age are currently touring in Britain so it couldn't have been him, must've been a doppelgänger. Emiwee 02:01, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Overhaul

For one of the most respected and talented musicians out there atm, this page doesn't show much. Blase statements, and quite a poor page. 88.108.22.171 21:52, 29 October 2006 (UTC)Holte

Hy Guys, hey off subject real quick - can someone point me to tracks that show off his talent? I don't own any music by this guy, and what little I've heard doesn't really match up with his reputation. That wasn't meant as disrespectful, on the contrary, I am opening myself to enlightenment, willing to buy tracks and I need guidance. Thanx! User:hanz_ofbyotch —Preceding undated comment added 18:30, 19 May 2009 (UTC).

That's partly 'coz he refuses to talk much about himself in interviews, and phrases like 'most respected and talented musicians out there' are POV, and people will argue against their inclusion even if they're sourced, I'm afraid. Stratpod 03:25, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

He recently did an interview for KFMA and states that the part about him growing up in the suburbs of Los Angeles was wrong and that it should be Suburbs of Palm Desert. I went ahead and corrected that but Strat is correct he doesnt talk much about himself. Gaumond 09:09, 20 June 2007 (PST)

Well, even if he does not talk much about himself (which I like in a musician), at least we know that he had drug problems. Why isn't that mentioned anywhere? (Read that in a German Visions issue, just can't remember which one) --Asdirk (talk) 12:58, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
I don't think it's worth noting as he hasn't exactly had drug 'problems'. More drug solutions. Red157(talkcontribs) 15:28, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Unless I missunderstand what you are trying to say, I see your comment as an agreement that it is important to Hommes life.--Asdirk (talk) 09:32, 12 August 2008 (UTC)

Where is stoner rock under genre?

Kyuss was obviously a stoner metal band, so I don't get why it isn't a genre under his name. Rockgenre (talk) 01:24, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

Personal Life

In personal life it mentions him allowing the LAPD to use feel good hit of the summer in PDAs in return for a light sentence. But what was the crime he committed? 98.196.78.26 (talk) 02:46, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Reduced sentence?

The statement in the Personal Life section that says Homme agreed to let the LAPD use a Queens of the Stone Age song in exchange for a reduced sentence is confusing. A reduced sentence for what? 64.122.56.143 (talk) 22:55, 22 February 2009 (UTC)

I agree. Unless someone can come up with what the "sentence" was (I'm assuming it's for the Blag Dahlia Incident) this portion should be rewritten.--132.18.128.6 (talk) 18:53, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

His Name

How does he pronounce "Homme"?

"homm-ee"

Most people prounounce it as 'Home' though

It's pronounced as Tommy. But with an H.

Hi, I just added a clip to the page from an interview on a local station in San Diego. It's definitly 'Homme' as in Tommy. Enjoy it... Spicyjack 23:35, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
There's another video of the "Tommy" pronounciation here: http://www.eaglesofdeathmetal.net/media/Jesseaskjosh.mov FredTheDeadHead 20:12, 2 January 2007 (UTC)
The Norwegian pronounce is "Homm" btw. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.202.209.5 (talk) 20:48, 4 May 2007 (UTC).

The article says that he is famous for never giving a straight answer to how his name is pronounced. That's not true. I have never heard him making a secret out of how it's pronounced and I've listened to countless interviews with the man. Burnthewitch 02:43, 5 May 2007 (UTC)

It's worth noting however, that if it in fact was Norwegian, it would have been said Homm-eh. <-That might not be the correct way of typing it, but it's how I think it's written.

I currently call him "Hahm" or "Haam" That's how I pronounce it. I also like your username, Burnthewitch. I should change mine to Sexron, or maybe Avon or RegularJohn. Anybody know anything cool about QOTSA? I'm going to a concert soon. Wow. Way off topic. BurnMuffin Word, bro. 02:41, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Place of Birth

Does Homme himself claim to have been born in Joshua Tree, CA? There was no hospital with a maternity ward in Joshua Tree at the time of Homme's birth. I guess it could have been a home birth.

Submersible (talk) 22:17, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Palm Springs. Much more likely--that was the closest maternity ward in the 70s.

homophobia controversy

In the norwegian wood section, i added a note about the "cock smoker" tirade from the live album. it's relevant to add some context to the norwegian incident. alone, the norwegian incident gives the impression he verbally assaulted an audience member. with the expansion, it gives some context and shows that it's a trick he uses to shame bad apples in the audience, unlike other bands (cough*nickelback*cough) who throw a hissy, flip off the whole crowd and walk off stage, ripping off their paying fans. Aoystreck (talk) 03:21, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

okay I removed the transcript of what Josh said to the fan at Norwegian wood as I thought it as completely unnecessary and probably included to incite a reaction. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.24.77.40 (talk) 01:15, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Several sources claim the kid threw a bottle at Josh (and he threw it back). This is not correct, as it was a shoe. It is funny that people say it's a bottle, because bottles are strictly not allowed into festivals!! Birth date/place?

Okay, while reading Joshua Tree, it struck me as odd that his birthplace was listed as Joshua Tree -- I'm a big fan of both him and Queens of the Stone Age and I'm almost %100 sure that he was born in Palm Springs.

Also, while reading this article they list his birthday as May 17, 1973 and his birthplace as Palm Springs (aha!) but I can't see what they're citing for these facts. IMDB lists his birthday and place as May 73 and Palm Springs as well. (This one) But this one says different on the birthday.

Any ideas? I may just use the IMDB as a cite to remove his name here and add it to the Palm Springs article? Also I may start a thread on his article about this topic. — Preceding unsigned comment added by AirCombat (talkcontribs) 07:13, 28 August 2011 (UTC)

Voice type

While Homme makes extensive use of falseto, he also sings in what sounds like a baratone to my untrained ears. The closest thing to an actual reference I have found is a forum, suggesting a range of F♯1-E♭5. That is well beyond the typical two octave range, and spans from sub-bass to tenor. I think anyway. Anyone know what or if any religion Josh worships or had?

I ask this question because I've seen a couple of photo's where he's wearing a cross? So I gotta assume, I mean, does he wear that because he believes in Christianity or does he just wear it for decoration or a religious statement. Place of birth revisited

Hate to keep harping on it, but contrary to the link provided in the article, public birth records indicate that JH was born in 1973 in Riverside County. Joshua Tree is in San Bernardino County. Josh is also a contemporary musician when it comes to Wikipedia and the time line of his relevance, so it would make sense to document it as time goes by him. 68.5.63.176 (talk) 23:45, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

place of birth

The California Birth Index 1905-1995 places Joshua M. Homme's birthplace as Riverside County--NOT San Bernardino County. That rules out Joshua Tree as the place of birth and points to the much more plausible explanation that he was born in the Palm Springs/Palm Desert area. There was no maternity ward in Joshua Tree itself in the early 1970s. Birth records are public information--shouldn't they be used for biographical purposes? Ideally we would use secondary sources, but if it's publicly available, I'd say go ahead. Heavy Water (talk) 00:20, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
By "publicly available" I did mean to include offline sources, as well. Heavy Water (talk) 00:20, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
Thanks. I'm not too up to speed on protocol here. It looks like I somehow was viewing a cached article because when I returned, the changes had been made. Submersible (talk) 00:45, 21 January 2023 (UTC)
