Notable film?
[edit]Is this really a notable enough film at this point to warrant a Wikipedia article?? bish 19:44, 19 May 2006 (UTC)
Story
[edit]Tonight (3/24), I saw the film with a group. I tried to remember as many details as I could while still enjoying the movie. I wanted to write it down while it is the freshest in my mind. I'm sure that I got some things wrong. I'm not sure what the name of the "recent convert from the British Isles" is, but I didn't like the alternative that I had there so I made an educated guess. And reading what I wrote, even this late at night (2:10a.m. 3/25) it reads stilted. I may be able to smooth it out later, but not tonight.
There are some things that I wanted to get in there, but I don't know where they go: Like Joseph and Hyrum were discussing Carthage near the beginning of the movie just the same way that they were near the end, but I'm pretty sure that it didn't open the movie. The group of black people who arrived after Joseph sent out the missionaries was significant: There was the bandaging of their feet, paying of the fine and Joseph giving the horse so that the man could buy his son's freedom. I didn't remember their names either and I didn't want the same kind of awkwardness of what I'd avoided by guessing "Mary".
But some things I don't think should be changed, and I've noted these in the inline comments I made. Even though we know the names of the people that were with Joseph on most of these occasions, I've specifically left the names out where the people were not previously named. But feel free to fill those in that are named in the film but I didn't note. I've also (generally) left out specific dates where they were not provided in the film. I've tried to link to the appropriate articles for people to find out more if they would like.
But now I have to get some sleep. Val42 09:27, 25 March 2006 (UTC) (Local time is UTC - 7.)
Subject significance
[edit]This is a significant film amoung the LDS/Mormon community because it focuses on the story of the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ through Joseph Smith. This restoration is believed to have begun as he was a 14 year old boy to the eventual establishment of the organization in 1830. Storm Rider (talk) 02:22, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Categories
[edit]This article is certainly not a stub; there is only so much you can say about a film. I suspect that there are other categories that could be added, but I think the current set is appropriate. Does anyone have a specific suggestion for adding more? Storm Rider (talk) 02:22, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
Origins of Mary
[edit]Having just watched this, the article states that Mary was from the British Isles, yet in the movie there is just a comment that says that she travelled over 1,000 miles. I've changed the article to agree, as per consensus on this article to keep strict adherence to the movie. --HighKing (talk) 13:58, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
- You need to add a reference for this. You can see how to reference a web site by viewing Template:cite web if this will do the job. If you think only a viewer of the film would be able to verify the fact you replaced "Britis Isles" with, then you may need to enquire on the talkpage of WP:RS how to proceed. I don't think one can take one's own personal experience as being a verified reliable source, however. If the claim is unverified, tag it, remove it, or ask for verification here. Don't just replace it with something equally unverified. DDStretch (talk) 14:48, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
overly long
[edit]This is a motion to remove the "overly long" warning, since the page isn't really too long there. Any disagreements or will do in a month. Rogerdpack (talk) 21:38, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Name Change and DVD Release
[edit]I'm editing here to let everyone know that I have moved the article to its proper name and added the DVD release information for the movie. After looking at various church websites, I was still confused as to the official full name of the movie (punctuation and all), so I emailed Church Distribution Services customer support looking for more answers. Here is what I received: "Yes, this is the official release of the film. It was released on 10/1/10. The exact title of it is “Joseph Smith: The Prophet of the Restoration”." This email was received from Jeff of Internet Customer Relations on October 13, 2010. Because this information was consistent with the DVD release also, I changed the page to reflect this information. This also matches up with the title card of the film.
