Copyvio
[edit]I don't see a copyvio in the current version. It's not particularly detailed, but it's also not verbatim copied to the external source suggested. Lulu of the Lotus-Eaters 08:09, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
- Neiter did I. Maybe some sentences were a little bit to close to the referenced sources, but this is a work in progress and (as I wrote in the edit summary) I'm having intentions to extend the article without any copyvio. Even the early version (that was told to be a copyvio) included information from both sources. But, as I said, maybe the original text was to close to the original(s), this is however now fixed. - David Björklund (talk) 16:27, 26 November 2005 (UTC)
Why this article needs attention
[edit]This article has plenty of red links and needs an infobox. Jesse Viviano 15:58, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
- I've added an infobox. A minor point, but the article is headed "Joseph L. Lewis". I have not found any sources that state his middle name - what did the "L" stand for? Muzilon (talk) 01:30, 6 May 2016 (UTC)

There is an RfC on the question of using "Religion: None" vs. "Religion: None (atheist)" in the infobox on this and other similar pages.
The RfC is at Template talk:Infobox person#RfC: Religion infobox entries for individuals that have no religion.
Please help us determine consensus on this issue. --Guy Macon (talk) 18:09, 21 April 2015 (UTC)

Modern scholarship section
[edit]This content has been in the biography for 12 years. It seems highly suspect and unusual, given that the book has nothing to do with Lewis at all, and the argument that is made is polemical and tendentious in nature. Viriditas (talk) 23:09, 31 May 2022 (UTC)
- Mitchell's book cites Lewis's book three times but appears to only mention Lewis once (p.78). I would simply remove that section as WP:UNDUE; Mitchell's book is about the Catholic Church in Spain, and even if he says something critical about Lewis's book about Spain, it doesn't seem relevant. - Update: nobody else participated in this discussion, so after waiting seven days, I’ve removed the section. Viriditas (talk) 21:48, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

Joseph L. Lewis → Joseph Lewis (secularist) – There seems to be no evidence at all that his middle initial was "L". Library of Congress catalog gives his name as "Lewis, Joseph, 1889-1968"; primary sources state he had no middle name. Muzilon (talk) 00:22, 8 April 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Better a disambiguated title than a possibly incorrect title. BD2412 T 00:48, 8 April 2023 (UTC)
- Support per nomination and BD2412. This article was created in November 2005 and remained as the primary topic until it was unilaterally moved to Joseph Lewis (freethinker) in October 2008 with the edit summary "Does not merit primacy". In July 2010 it was again unilaterally moved, this time to Joseph L. Lewis, with the edit summary "Less cumbersome title with middle initial". I would support either the redlinked nominated form, per William McIlroy (secularist), Frank Ridley (secularist) and Charles Watts (secularist) or a restoration of the 2008 move to the still-existing redirect, Joseph Lewis (freethinker), per Logan Mitchell (freethinker) and George Whale (freethinker). —Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 04:47, 8 April 2023 (UTC)
- "Freethinker" is a somewhat dated term; I think "Secularist" would be more immediately comprehensible per WP:UCRN. Muzilon (talk) 23:05, 8 April 2023 (UTC)
