Ohio Supreme Court?

[edit]

The congressional biography for Joseph Halsey Crane indicates that he was serving as an Associate Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court when he died. The History of Union County (New Jersey) mentions that one of the sons of William and Abigail (Miller) Crane was a Justice of the Ohio Supreme Court. However, none of the histories of Dayton and of Ohio mention this fact, although they were all written after his death and all were practically elegiac in their praise of him. The website of the Ohio Supreme Court does not include him on the list of former members of the court. In the Official Roster of the 1854-1856 session, the Supreme Court Judges are listed as Thomas W. Bartley, John A. Corwin, Allen G. Thurman, Rufus P. Ranney, and Wm. B. Caldwell. It's possible that one of them died or resigned and he replaced them, but so far I have not found any evidence for it. So I did not include this "fact" since I could not determine its accuracy.David 00:32, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
