[edit]It would help to have a truly reliable source, such as a magazine or newspaper article.DGG 09:17, 15 April 2007 (UTC)
How about a decision of the United States Supreme Court. Murray vs. Giarratano, 492 US 1 (1989)
Is that good enough for you?

McCarthy - dubious
[edit]We are citing a piece written by McCarthy in the Washington Post. Even that newspaper has filed it under "op-ed", and it is a short piece. What credentials does the writer possess? I have no verification of this particular circumstance, but as a generalisation pretty much anyone can get an op-ed published. Believe me, I am one of them and, as with the McCarthy piece, mine have been campaigning efforts. (A long time ago, on issues to which I do not contribute here, I hasten to add). - Sitush (talk) 23:35, 24 May 2012 (UTC)
- Agree that an Op-Ed piece needs to be identified as such. Have looked for more sources that are reporting on events, rather than offering opinion.Parkwells (talk) 15:43, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
op eds can be informative. In this case McCarthy personally interviewed Giarratano on at least 4 separate occasions while he was on death row. Syndicated Columnist James J Kilpatrick (no liberal), wrote several columns about this case. Kilpatrick read the trial record, appellate record, and interview the states Attorney General about the case as well as communicated with Giarratano. Kilpatricks conclusions were similar to McCarthy's. Joedion! (talk) 19:03, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

- What content do you want to add to the article that is backed by these secondary sources? --NeilN talk to me 17:42, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
I am writing to Joe now and will ask him that question. Thank you. Barb — Preceding unsigned comment added by Barbaranelsonnelson (talk • contribs) 16:59, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
- Note that if you are adding the material, it's up to you to obtain and verify the sources. That is, you should not be editing by proxy on behalf of Mr. Giarratano. --NeilN talk to me 20:09, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
