Created by FatCat96 (talk). Self-nominated at 18:26, 8 February 2024 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Joseph Bosworth (Kentucky politician); consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.[reply]

  • @FatCat96: Hook is interesting and checks out from the source, which seems reliable enough. Article is long enough, created within the window and has no apparent copyvio, BLP or other issues. Everything is cited: there is in fact some WP:OVERCITE going on, particularly with lead citations and the third paragraph of "political career": I would suggest bundling or pruning these citation lists before the article hits the main page. QPQ not done; the tool I normally use to check DYK credits is down, but can I ask on good faith whether you've had five or more DYKs yet? UndercoverClassicist T·C 12:16, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@UndercoverClassicist: I believe I have addressed your concerns. Please notify me if there is anything else that needs addressed. This is my first DYK, but it won't be my last! 🐱FatCat96🐱 Chat with Cat 17:45, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Approved: all checks out here. The MoS (MOS:LEADCITE) would advise removing the citation in the lead and making sure the same information appears and is cited in the body, but that's not a hurdle for DYK. Nice work and congratulations on your first! UndercoverClassicist T·C 19:01, 13 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I will (hopefully) review this within the month. Template:LunaEatsTunaSig (talk), posted at 04:35, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, just so you know, I have since changed usernames.  Kentuckian |💬   16:10, 23 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Lol, very fitting! @Kentuckian: sorry for the wait, I have now finished the review. Feel free to refute anything or ask me any questions and take as long as you need, ❧ LunaEatsTuna (talk), changing "is" to "was" since 2017 – posted at 22:26, 1 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@LunaEatsTuna: I believe your concerns have been addressed. Unfortunately, I was unable to find any dates for when he was a coal operator, and I was unable to figure out what the F in his name stands for. Thank you for taking the time to review my article!  Kentuckian |💬   01:00, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That is fine! The article looks amazing; nice work! I am now happy to pass it for GA status. Congrats!! ❧ LunaEatsTuna (talk), making typos since 2017 – posted at 05:33, 4 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Da review
  • Is it possible to add page numbers to the History of Kentucky book so that I know which specific pages are being cited?
Early life and education
  • Do we know what the F in his name stands for or nah?
  • Parents' names usually go last (because the birthdate/birthplace is more relevant).
  • "Veal in 1890, in Tazewell, Tennessee, they had" – should be "Veal in 1890, in Tazewell, Tennessee, and they had".
Career
  • I think it should be "where, for about ten years, he".
  • Regarding the coal companies, are there perhaps any dates available somewhere in any RS sources that say when he served those positions?
  • "elected judge of Middlesboro, Kentucky" – just "Middlesboro" is fine here since the location is already mentioned earlier.
  • Should it not be "for the 94th district" (and 17th district) since he was elected to represent those?
  • You should wikilink Kentucky House of Representatives and Republican Party (United States) (in Republicans).
  • "He served as speaker for two years from 1920 to 1922 until Republicans lost their majority" > "He served as speaker between 1920 and 1922 when the Republicans lost their majority" (saying "two years" is redundant here).
  • "He served as a representative until 1940" > "Bosworth served as a representative until 1940" since someone else was just mentioned.
  • The last paragraph needs a lot of tweaking:
    • The first two sentences both use Kentucky and amendments which make them sound a bit repetitive, so rephrase it if you can.
    • "Over eight years" – state which years here if possible so that it is more informative for readers.
    • "helped Middlesboro become a third-class city instead of a fourth-class city" – explain what these terms mean.
    • Explain what the Kentucky Pure Food and Drug Law did, as you do so for the appropriation law.
