Rank
[edit]According to the American authors Kenneth Alford and Theodore Savas , Josef Spacil was promoted to the rank of SS Oberfuhrer on 20 April 1945. But I can find no independent confirmation of this in any other literature. Their conclusions are based, according to Footnotes, on Spacil's interrogation by CIC officials. However they admit they he misleads and lies somewhat in their interviews.
All other liteature presents him as a Standartenfuhrer. Having typed that, by April 1945 no doubt the German records & bureaucracy was collapsing, so perhaps he was promoted but the documents were lost or not processed, etc. ?
So......was he an Oberfuhrer or Standartenfuhrer ?
