- ... that Singaporean performance artist Josef Ng was fined S$1,000 for partially exposing his buttocks and snipping his pubic hair during a public performance? Source: Various
Created by Kingoflettuce (talk). Self-nominated at 15:37, 20 August 2023 (UTC). Post-promotion hook changes for this nom will be logged at Template talk:Did you know nominations/Josef Ng; consider watching this nomination, if it is successful, until the hook appears on the Main Page.
- New enough and long enough. QPQ present. Journal article contains the buttocks/pubic hair information, AGF on the dollar amount in an offline book source. No other textual issues. Sammi Brie (she/her • t • c) 06:40, 24 August 2023 (UTC)

A rather short article.
CE suggestions:
- "Around 02:00 on 1 January 1994" – I guess this must be 24 hour time. Would add that it is local time.
- "He was fined S$1,000." – add USD value.
- Not sure this value-adds the article and might border on OR (not mentioned in source either). KINGofLETTUCE 👑 🥬 15:10, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- "who were seated 10 to 15 metres away" – would add conversion to feet using Template:Convert
- "Ng's prosecution was negatively received by members of the local performing arts community." – Are there others' views of the performance? You only seem to highlight Tommy Koh.
- Tommy's comment was more of a qualification of the generally negative reception ("no one from NAC witnessed Josef Ng's performance") and I didn't think it'd be necessary to give a laundry list of the negative opinions especially from non-notables. KINGofLETTUCE 👑 🥬 15:10, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- Is there anything else known about Josef Ng before Brother Cane? Like family and so on? Seems this article was created largely because of his performance. It might not actually meet WP:CRIME in terms of notability since this is a one-off event and could actually be under an article Brother Kane or 5th Passage.
Otherwise, the article is sufficiently well-cited. Earwig doesn't show immediate issues beyond a few direct quotations. But I'm unsure about the notability of this article given it's rather short and focussed more on the Brother Kane incident. Putting on hold.--ZKang123 (talk) 09:01, 4 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hey ZKang, appreciate the review. I believe I really plumbed the depths of the internet to find all publicly-available scrabs of info I could get on Josef but I don't think too much of his personal life is known outside of the Brother Cane incident. Still there is sizeable coverage of his post-Brother Cane career and I'm confident this passes the GNG barrier (though it's worth noting that notability technically isn't a GA criteria...). Made some of your proposed changes. Thanks! KINGofLETTUCE 👑 🥬 15:08, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
- After reconsidering, unfortunately while the article is in really good shape and well-cited, this person was only notable due to WP:BLP1E and his post-life was not as significant. I feel there isn't sufficient coverage for the person himself to become a GA. I think, however, since most of the coverage about this guy is about the performance Brother Kane, then the article should be about the performance instead. So, I'm sorry to say that this article fails to meet the GA criteria as it's not broad enough in its coverage. Consider moving the content to Brother Kane instead.--ZKang123 (talk) 00:15, 8 May 2024 (UTC)

Josef Ng → Brother Cane (performance) – Ng fails BLP1E; this article should be renamed (and rescoped) from the person to the notable event he was involved in, which is already what the majority of the article talks about. I'm not a fan of "performance" as a disambiguator, but I couldn't come up with anything better. Queen of Hearts talk 01:03, 3 August 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. I think it's better left where it is. -- Necrothesp (talk) 11:35, 7 August 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose With all due respect, BLP1E is being hastily and inaccurately invoked here. KINGofLETTUCE 👑 🥬 08:41, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
- Specifically, (emphases mine) "We generally should avoid having an article on a person when each of three conditions is met: 1) Reliable sources cover the person only in the context of a single event. 2) The person otherwise remains, and is likely to remain, a low-profile individual..." The sources clearly show that these two conditions are not met. Cheers, KINGofLETTUCE 👑 🥬 08:45, 9 August 2024 (UTC)
