Jordan is an Israeli word
[edit]As the article itself states, Jordan is a Hebrew word that predates Christianity, thus clearly did not originate in the Christian Roman Empire. It originated in Israel and refers to a river in Israel.
Jordanes the Goth
[edit]- The Germanic name Jordanes, which was the name of a 6th-century Gothic historian, may have popularised the name as well.
His article says he was probably of Gothic descent; but, given that he was a Christian convert living in the Eastern Roman Empire, it seems likely that he changed his name. Calling it a Germanic name is iffy. —Tamfang (talk) 23:18, 20 March 2023 (UTC)
