Are there any media articles discussing his reaction to the ban or his plans for the summer? Honestly, to risk the tens of millions he could have made during a lifetime career with the NBA doesn't make any sense. Though I think his brother has a 5 year $170 million contract. I suppose he can just crash at one of his brothers cribs, manage the brothers finances? Sad either way. Ducky008 (talk) 14:56, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

He was banned from the NBA for life today, So i'm suggesting to edit his bio to WAS an NBA player, and add the relevant gambling information (him betting on his team to lose, and the 80k bet that hit for 1 million that he gave information to the bettor.
Thanks for taking the time to read this! TrippyHippie420 (talk) 19:00, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Changing "is" to "was" in the first sentence would imply that he has died which isn't the case. We could potentially change "professional basketball center" to "former professional basketball center", but I think its probably best to wait - it's possible that he could remain a professional player outside of the NBA. I also agree that Jontay Porter should not be considered a "former" professional basketball player; because while he may be banned for life from the NBA and other related leagues, that does not mean that he can't play in, say, China or Europe or any basketball league not NBA influenced. If such a league, or a team within such a league, feels like they can trust Porter enough to give him a chance, he can still play professional basketball. So, while Porter flunked out of playing in the NBA, it is still too early to determine that his professional basketball playing career is also over. Therefore, no "former" designation just yet, in my opinion. Mungo Kitsch(talk)23:49, 19 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Agree with this summary. He is banned from the NBA, and has not officially announced his retirement. In such cases, we typically still refer to individuals using the language "is a professional basketball player," which may include, say, folks who are not signed to any team, but may still be working out and aspiring to join a team, or in an indeterminate situation. - Fuzheado | Talk18:15, 20 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
