poorly written article
"Kim's interests include spending time with his family, volunteering with non-profit veteran organizations, academic mentoring, working out and learning new skills." sounds like a high schooler's resume. Who wrote this? Where is the source? Why did this need its own section? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 141.233.112.233 (talk) 10:07, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
- NASA wrote it. It is from his NASA bio (which can be reused since this is US Government text). Hektor (talk) 13:48, 7 May 2018 (UTC)
Source for Navy rank
Is there a reliable source for Dr. Kim's rank? Based upon his status as a new doctor for the Medical Corps, it makes sense that he is a lieutenant. However, most articles refer to him as "Dr. Kim," and any pages that reference a rank look like fairly unreliable sources. Balon Greyjoy (talk) 04:58, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
- I've found a single one and cited it. I'd love something more… concrete, but I think it'll do. — fourthords | =Λ= | 16:35, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
Kim's SEAL Career
Is there any information on what Kim was involved in during his time as a Navy SEAL. There are several articles about combat deployments, and the Jocko Willink tweet about Task Unit Bruiser, but information seems sparse about Kim's time as a Navy SEAL. Balon Greyjoy (talk) 02:12, 2 December 2018 (UTC)
- Given that Kim has only recently been thrust into the public spotlight, I only found the same online sources for his time as a SEAL. — fourthords | =Λ= | 16:35, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
Residence
Could it be Newton, Massachusetts, and a typo by CBS News? Kees08 (Talk) 22:48, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
- I have the same question. Newtron, Mass is either a misspelling of Newton or a science joke. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.161.79.165 (talk • contribs) 23:47, 8 May 2019 (UTC)
- It is probably a typo, and besides, it was from before he was to report to NASA (reported in June, went to NASA in August). So likely he is living near JSC. I am going to remove it on that basis; if anyone has a more recent citation with his whereabouts feel free to add it back. Kees08 (Talk) 02:50, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
- I agree that it should be removed. Newton is likely where he lives, as that is a good location to commute to Boston, but it isn't relevant anymore, as he won't be living there and commuting to the JSC. Balon Greyjoy (talk) 03:56, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
- Aye, that's reasonable. If I remember correctly, one of the sources mentions Kim preparing to move in 2017, anyway. — fourthords | =Λ= | 15:40, 9 May 2019 (UTC)
Age/Birthday
How do we not know the exact birthday of a guy born in the 80's? This isn't Alexander Hamilton. He's not a North Korean refugee. I've noticed a lot of "unreliable sources" seem to all agree on his exact birth date being Feb 5, 1984. Are they all wrong? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.49.58.254 (talk) 22:40, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
- The English Wikipedia only publishes claims that can be cited to reliable sources. None of the sources currently in the article have the subject's DOB. If you have seen a reliable source with Kim's DOB, please add that citation. To vet sources for reliability, you can check the reliable-sources noticeboard or the perennial sources list. — Fourthords | =Λ= | 23:08, 13 January 2020 (UTC)
inaccuracies?
In their edit of 20:54, 14 January 2020, Therequiembellishere (talk · contribs) saved an edit summary that said in part, "his IB is incorrect anyway but whatever". I assume this to mean that information in the infobox doesn't correspond with the sourced prose in the article. I though that I vetted, sourced, and cited all the articular content, but it's always possible I missed something. Can anybody find any data from the infobox that's not sourced & cited in the body? — Fourthords | =Λ= | 21:27, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
- No, it's that he's under the "person" infobox instead of "astronaut", which has created this messy amalgam of code for his military and NASA terms. This is more easily expressed as "officeholder" in lieu of a greater effort cleaning up the embedded boxes. Therequiembellishere (talk) 21:38, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
- Kim is a US Naval officer (former enlisted), Harvard-educated emergency-room physician, and trained-yet-inexperienced NASA astronaut. No one of these aspects of his person plainly supersedes all the others, and none of them should be weighted more than the others. On the other hand, the article doesn't have any evidence that Kim has ever held public office, for which {{infobox officeholder}} is designated. Lastly, I can't speak to the "messiness" of the code because it's implemented exactly as it was designed; the templates don't require "cleaning up". — Fourthords | =Λ= | 21:59, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
- His notability only comes from being an astronaut, and at this moment explicitly supersedes the others pending future accomplishments in any of those fields. The code is messy because it's messy when editing. That being said, none of this really matters. Therequiembellishere (talk) 23:53, 14 January 2020 (UTC)
