Identity
[edit]I've dug through the contemporary newspapers a bit. It seems JJ Richardson, the sitting MP 1853-57, was not the same as the Richardson elected in 1857; he posted a statement in the newspapers on 10 March that "...it is not my intention to solicit your suffrages on the forthcoming occasion [...] it is only the especial call of duty to my family, and the engagements connected with my business, that have determined me to allow the present opportunity of again soliciting your support to pass by for the present". (Belfast Mercury, 10 March 1857; Belfast News-Letter, 10 March 1857.
The Belfast News-Letter has a detailed report of the nomination, as does the Northern Whig, in which Jonathan Richardson and Jonathan Joseph Richardson ("late member for Lisburn") are quite clearly distinguished.
For the 1859 election, the Northern Whig (https://www.britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk/viewer/bl/0000434/18590416/033/0003 16 April 1859]) confirms that the sitting MP stood again in 1859. It also confirms that he was "a cousin" (however that might be interpreted) of the previous MP, JJ Richardson.
I'll make the appropriate changes. Andrew Gray (talk) 18:13, 25 March 2018 (UTC)
