[edit]The College quarrel is tricky. The Visitor started off as Sancroft, but he left the position of Archbishop of Canterbury in 1691, so it is possible that Proast was restored by his successor John Tillotson, as one source says. Charles Matthews (talk) 20:47, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
There is also a subtext about the James II context. Finch was insecure (effectively he was intruded); it seems that Proast had engaged with Thomas Cartwright (bishop) about the Magdalen visitation of the year before.
