Old Danish Measurements

[edit]

Although there is a Wiki-page for Alen, I can find no suitable site to place this old-Danish marine measurement conversion which comes in part from Den Danske Lod referenced in the main article. Perhaps another editor could advise/move it as appropriate.

1 Fod = 139,13 Pariser Linier. 1 Alen = 2 Fod. 1 Favn = 3 Alen. 1 Kabellængde = 100 Favne. v 1 Qvartmiil (Q.miil) = 9{j Kabellængde = 5900,7 Fod = 1 Middel Meridian Minut. 1 Miil = 4 Q.miil. 1 Qmiil = 9 Cables = 5900.7 fod

which can be converted to metric measurements

  • 1 fod (foot) = 31.38 centimetres
  • 1 Alen = 2 fod = 62.77 centimetres
  • 1 Favn ( fathom)= 3 Alen = 188.31 centimetres
  • 1 Kabellængde (cable) = 100 Fathoms
  • 1 Qvartmiil or Qmiil (literally quartermile) = 5900.7 fod = 1.85164 Kilometres

Which would make one Danish Mile 7.4 Km or 4.6 Imperial (English) miles.
