Date of birth error

In this Liverpool Echo article, Johnny is quoted as saying that his date of birth is 11th of September. Should his Wikipedia entry be changed to reflect this?

Cricket & priesthood

I doubt this very much but I'd like to see a reference.

Johnny was a keen cricketer in his youth. He played for St. Helens c.c and England, alongside the local legend Steve Harmison.

• • It just isn't true. As Michael Pennington, he may well have played cricket in his youth, but certainly not for England, nor yet with Steve Harmison (who is from the north east of England, nowhere near St Helens). And of course, neither is it possible in Britain to train to be a Catholic priest at the age of 11.

• • If these are just random unsubstantiated claims, then they ought to go. However, it's just possible that they are claims that Johnny Vegas - as distinct from Michael Pennington - has made about his early life. If so, then I guess they should stay - but with evidence, and introduced along the lines of "Vegas claims that ..."AndyofKent 11:02, 30 September 2007 (UTC)

Johnny Vegas is not dead

Someone keeps editing the article to say that Vegas is dead. He is not dead! Ummagumma23 23:10 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Support of Koptalk.com

Vegas courted controversy in September 2007 when it was announced by Koptalk, a Liverpool website that has previously come under fire for being less than ethical in its dealings, that Vegas had 'defended' them. Vegas is heard to say in an MP3 podcast released through the Koptalk website: "Hi, I'm Johnny Vegas and you're listening to Koptalk with Dunk and his monkey Steve. And all you other Liverpool sites, just stop embarrassing yourselves... alright?!" Is it worth this being mentioned on the main page? Ditto that he was on Room 101? For that matter, I think Shooting Stars should be mentioned; he was a regular on Ulrika's team after Will Self took over from Mark Lamarr; at the moment on the main wiki page, the only ref to Shooting Stars is the QVC references --TimothyJacobson (talk) 00:06, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

You're an admin, you should know policy. Obese is a clinical term defined by Body Mass Index and to comply with WP:BLP would need a source. As for "fat", what encyclopedic value does it have? we both know he's fat. He is. But is it sourced? --Rodhullandemu (Talk) 16:44, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Being slapped by Charlotte Church

This whole Charlotte Church story seems very dodgy. Everything I can find about it online seems to be taken from a single article from the Sun, printed before the show aired, based on statements from a single audience member. The slap itself is not on youtube, but other parts are and it seems very unlikely that that interview turned so nasty. Comments from people who have seen the show suggest that the slap was actually in good fun (if it is, the article should reflect that). I've removed a link to wikinews, since it gives the impression of a reference, when that news story can also be reduced to just the Sun article. (after edit conflict) The reason I re-added the Wikinews link is because that story contains citations. One of which is the Metro [1], and the other is on icWales News. For some reason, every story on there currently results in a server error, but the story should be here, and there is a Google cache of a page that links to the story here. Sorry, I should have realized you may have been typing a reply. I did see those references but they all echo the Sun article, where one audience member gave some statements. I don't know icWales, but Metro isn't tremendously reputable. Looking at the youtube clips and (equally unreliable) comments from people on the internet suggests that the show went quite well, and everything was in good fun. The Sun article (and its children) were published before the show was aired. The thing suggests that some audience member misinterpreted what he/she was seeing, the Sun inflated the story further, other low-rate newspapers took over the story (with the lack of fact checking that seems so common these days), the producers of Charlotte Church's show made no attempts to suppress the rumour (can't hurt the ratings), then the show aired, everybody saw that everything was fine, and the whole thing blew over. No problem, except that now, Wikipedia has included this, based some rather weak (indirect) references.

Maybe this happened, maybe it was a big deal after all. But I think we should be sure before including it. risk (talk) 15:23, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

You know, I don't really think the sentence in question even needs to be included. It is not exactly a major thing, or anything new for him, leering at audience members. County

Yes, now it is, but Vegas was born in 1971. St Helens was then in Lancashire and did not become part of Merseyside until 1st January 1974. For the same reason, we say Nebuchadrezzar I was king of Babylon, which it then was, not Iraq, which it is now. --Rodhullandemu 13:30, 14 September 2008 (UTC)

PG Tips and alcohol

Johnny and the Monkey had been mentioned in a show over the 2006 holiday period documenting really bad decisions (ITV Digital's moribund launch, particularly buying the rights for the lower division football)."

The above sentence needs to be rewritten. Could someone actually mention their ITV digital thing on the main show, and the link between PGTips and Johnny abstaining from alcohol (which I believe has not been mentioned on the main page yet)--TimothyJacobson (talk) 00:08, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
