Toowoomba
[edit]the article for Toowoomba lists Thurston as being from there. His article cites Brisbane. Can we verify which one is his birthplace?--Jeff79 22:14, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- http://www.cowboys.com.au/players.php?comp=NRL%202008&id=78 lists his birthdate as Brisbane. Ssiww (talk) 11:01, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Maori Ancestry
[edit]While the NZ Maori Rugby League seems to support Johnathan Thurston being of Mãori ancestry[1], there are otherwise no reputable sources supporting such claim. Furthermore, there was a Daily Telegraph article[2] that acknowledged Thurston's Aboriginal heritage but only stated that Thurston's father was a New Zealander. Hence, I have removed any mention of a supposed maori heritage. Imperialtwelve (talk) 16:42, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

MOS
[edit]MOS:1STABBR indicates that on the first occurrence of an abbreviation it should be introduced with the full expression, ie. "National Rugby League (NRL)". Removing the full version from the lead entirely does not solve the problem of abbreviations later in the text. Nikkimaria (talk) 00:05, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- @Fleets: As discussed on your talk page, blanket-reverting multiple improvements to the page without discussion because you don't care for 1STABBR is disruptive. Please stop doing that. Nikkimaria (talk) 02:07, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- The first sentence is barely English. It should just be "Johnathan Dean Thurston AM (born 25 April 1983) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer". Then for who and when he played can be expanded upon. Local Potentate (talk) 02:55, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
- Apparently people can't be expected to have any degree of intelligence, we have to explain what the NRL is, and that kind of grinds any sentence to a halt.Fleets (talk) 08:05, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks Local Potentate, I've rephrased as you suggested and reorganized the lead. Nikkimaria (talk) 00:46, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- Please use Australian-English.Fleets (talk) 19:12, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- This unexplained blanket revert is not justified by any variety of English and also undoes the change proposed above. Please stop doing that - it's disruptive. Nikkimaria (talk) 23:55, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
- Please use Australian-English.Fleets (talk) 19:12, 5 November 2022 (UTC)

For my two cents worth, the opening sentence is fine, either with or without the NRL qualifier. The later "of the NRL" sounds weird, and IMO shouldn't be reintroduced.
- Sounds good - I'll implement that rephrasing. Nikkimaria (talk) 02:23, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
