Change "Brito" to "Britto"

[edit]

Most authoritative documents that I have examined spell the name with two t's: "Britto" not "Brito". The documents spelling it "Britto" include:

  • de Britto, Fernando Pereira (brother of John de Britto) (1852) [1722]. Historia do nascimento, vida e martyrio do Beato João de Britto da Companhia de Jesus, Martyr da Asia, e protomartyr da missâo do Maduré (in Portuguese) (2nd ed.). Lisbon: A. S. Monteiro. ISBN 9781142042844. {{cite book}}: Unknown parameter |trans_title= ignored (|trans-title= suggested) (help)CS1 maint: unrecognized language (link)
  • Public Domain Herbermann, Charles, ed. (1913). "Blessed John de Britto". Catholic Encyclopedia. New York: Robert Appleton Company.

The only one I have found spelling it "Brito" that looks reasonably authoritative is:

I therefore propose to change the name of this article from "John de Brito" to "John de Britto". Wideangle (talk) 21:13, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In modern Portuguese his name is always spelled Brito. Some english language sources still use the ancient Portuguese form of his name. Nowadays in modern Portuguese he appears exclusively as João de Brito.Mistico (talk) 19:02, 8 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
This is the English-language Wikipedia. Nobody has offered any counterexamples, so I suggest the change from "Brito" to "Britto" be made. Mksword (talk) 23:54, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: page moved. Although there was a stub at the target before this article was created and a history merge would be possible, the previous stub doesn't seem to have contributed to this article, so it's not necessary... sadly.
