[edit]Is he the John Taylor of "Frederick's Tyler-Spite House"? [1] -FZ 23:19, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
"He died in obscurity in 1772, after spending the last years of his life completely blind." I can't imagine a more terrible irony for a self-promotional oculist. --68.158.7.28 04:29, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
Men of Vision
[edit]The article cites a news article from the University of Wisconsin–Madison School of Medicine and Public Health discussing the chapter on John Taylor in the book Men of Vision. I don't have access to this book, but I think ideally this chapter should be cited alongside the news article about the book, or at least mentioned as a further reading. Unfortunately I don't know the pages are for this chapter. Is it worth adding something like
- Albert, Daniel M.; Henkind, Paul (1993). "John Taylor". Men of Vision: Lives of Notable Figures in Ophthalmology. Philadelphia: Saunders. ISBN 0-7216-4512-7.
perhaps tagged with Template:pages needed to the "Further reading section" to let other editors know this might be a useful source?
Searching this book's HathiTrust entry (hdl:2027/mdp.39015032986294) for "John Taylor" suggests he's mentioned on pages 41–49, as well as 55–59, with presumably the table of contents on page iii and the index on page 397, but I wouldn't want to just claim 41–49 as the pages for the chapter without confirmation.
Hopefully a future editor does have access to the book and can add it to the further reading section with the appropriate page numbers or better yet cite it and incorporate it into the article. Umimmak (talk) 00:02, 13 July 2020 (UTC) Added Umimmak (talk) 17:07, 10 August 2020 (UTC)
- On a related note, I did take the liberty of adding Albert's 2011 book to further readings on the basis of this review:
- Helveston, Eugene M. (2012). "[Review of Chevalier John Taylor, England's Early Oculist: Pretender or Pioneer?]". American Journal of Ophthalmology. 153 (4): 785.e1. doi:10.1016/j.ajo.2012.02.016.
