Criticism quote
[edit]This is a living person, and the link to the criticism calling Stoltenberg a "self-loathing man" doesn't work. A web search turned up only mirrors of the original wikipedia article and some casual blog posts. Until someone can find a working link to the complete article, or find the exact citation to the original article and issue, I am deleting this comment as per WP's living person guidelines.72.244.201.231 16:26, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
- Finding an article assessing him as narcissistic personality would also be great. --105.12.2.226 (talk) 19:29, 7 August 2020 (UTC)
profeminist or feminist
[edit]Thanks, Malik Shabazz. Right after I saw your correction of my correction, I found online snippets agreeing with your description. I emailed/contacted him at AARP, asking. He didn't reply, so I guess he accepts your description, it doesn't interest him, relatively speaking, or it didn't get to him (the last seems unlikely). I'm a bit surprised because I recall one or two groups he more or less led that said men could be profeminist, I thought he counted himself as profeminist, Andrea certainly favored profeminism among men (I have a postcard from her to that effect but not about John in particular), someone can be a radical profeminist, there are political issues around men being or claiming to be feminist rather than profeminist, and I met him once in a feminist office although we didn't speak, but if he now describes himself as feminist I'll leave it at that. His support of Andrea's work comes as close as anything done by men that earns the label. Thanks for the correction. Nick Levinson (talk) 03:01, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
- No problem. The biography page in his books ("About the Author") describes him as a radical feminist, so I figure that's how he prefers to be identified. — Malik Shabazz (talk · contribs) 03:31, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
- Isn't the policy of Wikipedia to assess a title from published neutral literature, rather than the actual person's opinion? In that case, it should state, though he self describes as a "radical feminist" official publications of note (not his own writings) do not?--Tallard (talk) 19:10, 18 December 2020 (UTC)
- I am in agreement with you, Tallard. I understand he self-identifies as "radical feminist" but I don't know of any feminists who use that term for any man. I like you're solution, which is to note that is how he self-identifies. That, certainly, appears to be true. Related to this, I see "American feminist writers", "antipornography feminists", "gay feminists", and "male feminists" listed as other categories. I may reach out directly to you about this. Template messages
[edit]I have taken some time to add substantive content and ample citations to the John Stoltenberg page. I welcome feedback here as to the effectiveness of my edits in resolving issues raised in the template messages. --PaulThePony (talk) 11:10, 5 May 2022 (UTC)
disambiguation notification
[edit]I thought I resolved a disambiguation notice next to John's second spouse, Joseph Hamilton, in the infobox by removing [[ ]] on either side of his name. Those were there by error. I see it is still there so will leave it to other editors to either fix it or let me know how to do so, which I'll gladly take care of. --PaulThePony (talk) 23:35, 14 May 2022 (UTC)
- @PaulThePony: I removed the link and template as it seems that Joseph (or Joe?) Hamilton is not a known person and doesn't have an article. 7szz (talk) 06:15, 15 May 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you so very much, 7szz! When troubleshooting, I realized I had put double brackets around his name (Joseph Hamilton goes by Joe, apparently). I thought removing the [[ ]] would resolve the issue, but am grateful you got it right. :) PaulThePony (talk) 17:16, 16 May 2022 (UTC)
