The result of the move request was: Disambiguation by nationality. Disambiguation hierarchy is first nationality, then DOB, as examplified in John_Spencer#Sportsmen by the cricketers. (non-admin closure) walk victor falk talk 02:44, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
John Spencer (footballer) → John Spencer (footballer born 1970) – Disambiguate from John Spencer (footballer born 1934). Bladeboy1889 (talk) 10:51, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
- Support This should use the year if there are two people with the same name. And the this title should be a disambiguation page. JOJ Hutton 12:25, 29 March 2014 (UTC)
- Support – seems like an uncontroversial move and you could have just done it yourself, but yes, let's move it. C679 09:09, 30 March 2014 (UTC)
- Support John Spencer (Scottish footballer), and John Spencer (English footballer) for the other. Nationality is our go-to second level of disambiguation; per WP:NCPDAB, "Years of birth and death are not normally used as disambiguators (readers are more likely to be seeking this information than to already know it)," so let's not resort to them if we don't have to. And for what it's worth, NCP now prescribes a common after "born" in such disambiguators. --BDD (talk) 18:25, 31 March 2014 (UTC)

- Support disambiguating by nationality, as suggested by BDD. Further to the reasoning given there, it should be noted that we already have an article about an Aussie Rules player John Spencer (Australian footballer), so it would make sense to disambiguate the other John Spencer footballers by nationality if possible. Jmorrison230582 (talk) 18:36, 31 March 2014 (UTC)
- Support Plenty of precedents with NFL players who share a name that aren't related. Jgera5 (talk) 05:43, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
- Support - disambiguating by DOB is preferable to nationality, given that footballing nationalities can change. GiantSnowman 18:13, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
- But in this case? One is dead, and the other is retired as a player. Unless we discover that this John Spencer secretly played for the Tuvalu national team or something, the nationality of these two is not in question. --BDD (talk) 18:15, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
- I don't believe anyone is more likely to know the nationalities of each player rather than their DOB, in fact they're more likely to know that one played in the 50s (and therefore can't be born in 1970) than the fact that he was English. Bladeboy1889 (talk) 07:38, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

- Support as uncontroversial. Fenix down (talk) 13:01, 4 April 2014 (UTC)
