Requested move

The result of the move request was Not Moved - John H. Reppy has no article, so there is nothing to disambiguate here. Suggest revisiting this once an article on John H. Reppy exists. kotra (talk) 21:32, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
John Reppy → John D. Reppy — To avoid confusion with John H. Reppy the computer scientist at University of Chicago. 67.60.73.95 (talk) 20:29, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

- Oppose. The sources used in the article refer to this person as "John Reppy", and readers are unlikely to know his middle initial. The correct disambiguator, if needed, would be John Reppy (physicist). Jafeluv (talk) 10:22, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
- Also, John H. Reppy hasn't got an article and there's no indication that he fulfills the inclusion criteria. This page is therefore the primary topic. Jafeluv (talk) 09:34, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
Discussion
[edit]- Any additional comments:
The article Andrew Appel was linked to this page, although the reference was to John H. Reppy rather than John D. Reppy. Furthermore, this article incorrectly listed John D. Reppy (the physicist) as John H. Reppy (the computer scientist). For reference, John Reppy (the physicist) lists his full name on his webpage: http://www.lassp.cornell.edu/lassp_data/reppy.html 67.60.73.95 (talk) 20:29, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah rename it. Apparently I messed up the initial. Sorry.
Calamitybrook (talk) 21:39, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- I'd support moves to more meaningful disambiguation, e.g. John Reppy (physicist), John Reppy (computer scientist), with a disambiguation page at John Reppy. Knepflerle (talk) 23:28, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- Great.
- One looking for a computer scientist would be disappointed to find John Reppy the Cornell physicist/rock climber. Are these two guys of comparable notability?

Suggested improvements
[edit]This article needs better discussion and references to Reppy's climbing achievements, preferably with infomrmation from John and Laura Waterman's "Yankee Rock and Ice." I've read this book but don't have access to it, nor recall.
It also needs a more refined discussion of his career as a physicist. I can't even spell it, nor do it, but I've provided a couple of good references.
This article also needs a more refined use of citations.
