Failed "good article" nomination
[edit]This article has failed its Good article nomination. This is how the article, as of December 20, 2016, compares against the six good article criteria:
- 1. Well written?: Unfortunately, this article has some serious problems that can't be worked out in a "ga hold" period of time, and so I'm recommending further copy editing help from at least one or two people who were not previously involved with the article. Major issues include: (1) Intro needs to be expanded more to fully summarize this larger size article. (2) Major problem: Too much use of blockquotes. This borders on WP:COPYVIO. I'm counting at least seven instances of huge, huge blockquoting. Probably almost the entire page or more from a book. That is way too much. Needs to be trimmed down to one sentence quotes, here and there, or removed, or paraphrased.
- 2. Verifiable?: Intro doesn't need citations but also these are the first time these citations appear in the article, not sure why that is. Not a big deal but something to improve on.
- 3. Broad in coverage?: Article has sections covering many different areas, but due to the large blockquoting hard to assess the actual body content of the article on its own merit, or not. Once the blockquotes are all gone, then the article will need a whole new re-assessment.
- 4. Neutral point of view?: Difficult to assess neutrality due to the large amount of blockquoting. Will need a new re-assessment after the blockquoting are gone.
- 5. Stable?: No ongoing edit-wars, no talk page conflicts.
- 6. Images?: Six images used in the article. File:College Tramp2.jpg has tag that it may not have the proper copyright or licensing information, or there is a conflict of license. That is a quick-fail. Needs to be addressed before next GA Review. File:John Patric Signature.jpg can be moved to Wikimedia Commons. File:Simon Legree2.jpg can be moved to Wikimedia Commons. File:Allan Shivers.jpg is another quick-fail criteria with image problems: This file is tagged with a non-free license and/or usage rationale, but also lists a free license, or is ineligible for copyright and in the public domain, but tagged with a non-free license and/or usage rationale. Please verify the correct copyright status of this file and modify the tags accordingly. File:John Patric SEFP.jpg needs more information in several fields and then maybe can be moved to Wikimedia Commons. File:Interview with David Dilgard.png this one is a MAJOR problem as we don't have permission from the other side of the conversation, and this image violation is, unfortunately, another quick-fail.
Unfortunately, this one is not good article due to WP:COPYVIO concerns about seven instances of very very very large blockquotes, and the quick-fail criteria for multiple images tagged with image problems.
When these issues are addressed, the article can be renominated. If you feel that this review is in error, feel free to have it reassessed. Thank you for your work so far.— Sagecandor (talk) 00:32, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
Update
[edit]Thank you Sagecandor - Conflicting licensing information has been corrected on File:College Tramp2.jpg, and the following have been moved to Wikimedia Commons:
- File:John Patric Signature.jpg ({db-f8} tag added to old file)
- File:Allan Shivers 1949.jpg ({db-f8} tag added to old file)
- File:Interview with David Dilgard about John Patric.png (old file already deleted)
I've removed the {Copy to Wikimedia Commons} tag from the following because Wikimedia Commons does not accept {PD-Pre1978} 'Fair Use' contributions.
ToDo:
- Recommended formatting and block-quote usage corrections.
