  • "He..." is the start of about half a dozen sentences in the lead, mix it up, perhaps starting sometimes with his surname.

  • Was the "Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick" part of the "Parliament of Canada"? Parliament of Canada is mentioned in the infobox but not the lead.
  • "His father was also named John Mercer Johnson, and he was a merchant and public official in Chatham, New Brunswick" so when did they move to Canada?
  • Okay, you say that next sentence. Chronology makes for odd reading for me.
  • "a belief that bumps on the skull can predict mental illness" not just illness, I thought it was a pseudo science that enabled "believers" to determine all sorts of traits about a person...
  • "Chatham, New Brunswick" should be linked in the infobox.

  • "from Northumberland County" it was just "Northumberland" in the lead.
    • Added "county" in the lede.
  • "considered a liberal candidate" shouldn't that, in this case, be Liberal?

    • Conservative is now conservative, I did a ctrl+f for all cases of conservative and liberal, and only kept the capitalisation for mention of the federal parties, which were organised into political parties at this time. Z1720 (talk) 22:52, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • "to be the attorney general under the " isn't there a link to the AG of Canada (if, indeed, that's the position here)?

  • Charlottetown - link for the place?
    • I changed it to "In the Charlottetown Conference" because that is what was introduced earlier in the paragraph.
  • "for Northumberland County in " link before.
  • "Mitchell were given the moniker "the Northumberland County Smashers" for" this appears to be covered, although slightly differently, in the preceding sections.
    • The Smashers administration, the moniker given to the executive council of New Brunswick in 1854, is different from "the Northumberland County Smashers", a moniker given to Mitchell and Johnson for their work in the Canadian Parliament in 1867.
  • "they had twelve children.[2] Only six children survived into adulthood" -> "they had twelve children,[2] of which six survived into adulthood"
