[edit]This charge that caused him to flee - do we have any more details ? Was he guilty ? -- Beardo 19:52, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
I will try to find a citable source, but as I remember learning in school (from the Oneida, NY area) he was accused of many counts of statutory rape, not one. The terms of the charges were vague, but certainly not groundless, seeing as many of the boys in the community were deflowered at very young ages by post-menopausal women upon puberty to condition them for sexual continence. I will also attempt to expand on this more, since I'm pretty certain these weren't the first formal charges he had faced.
I studied this in college. The girls were also deflowered at a tender age, and Noyes liked to do the initiations himself; he was almost certainly guilty. J S Ayer (talk) 03:42, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
Anybody willing to take the time to clean this up some? It internally cites, ie (Sandeen, 82) instead of using wiki-format, with a superscript number linked to the actual citation. Looks more like a research paper than a wikipedia entry. Rostu23 (talk) 14:45, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

Noyes attended Yale and sent many of the Oneida children to Yale. I'd edit but do not know how to list multiple schools under education. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.125.235.87 (talk) 12:08, 11 January 2021 (UTC)
Evisceration
[edit]Most of this article was removed about two weeks ago, without explanation and for no good reason that I can see. Unless a convincing explanation appears shortly, I may reinsert the excised material. J S Ayer (talk) 01:34, 31 March 2009 (UTC)
