Street addresses?
[edit]Quoting: "Poynting lived at 11 St Augustine's Road, Edgbaston with his family and servants for some years. He previously lived at 66 Beaufort Road, Edgbaston (demolished)..." Why give his residential street addresses, or the fact that one of his residences was later demolished? If these particular houses or addresses are of some other encyclopedic importance, that should be mentioned. Otherwise, just giving the town where he and his family (and servants I guess) lived should be enough for this article. --96.233.85.76 (talk) 10:29, 12 June 2013 (UTC)
Greenhouse effect
[edit]According to this he coined the term "greenhouse effect" [1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.1.100.6 (talk) 21:40, 7 April 2017 (UTC)
Textbook of Physics
[edit]I was looking for works by Poynting at the Internet Archive, and wondering if they were complete. The multi-volume Textbook of Physics seems to have had 4 published volumes: 1. Properties of Matter 2. Sound 3. Heat 4. Electricity and Magnetism: Part 1 (Static Electricity and Magnetism). The title of volume 4 implies that a second part, presumably on Electrodynamics, was planned, but as far as I can make out it was never published. If anyone knows different it would be helpful to know. Poynting died in 1914, the date of publication for Volume 4, but his co-author J J Thomson lived until 1940. If, as stated in the article, Poynting was in fact the main author, Thomson may not have wanted to complete the project on his own.2A00:23C8:7906:1301:C9D0:2976:F6AD:7177 (talk) 14:28, 7 September 2020 (UTC)
Earth's mass
[edit]We depict a plaque commemorating that Poynting determined the Earth's mass, but that achievement is not mentioned in the article. Can someone oblige? Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 20:25, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
