I was an undergraduate from 1975 to 1979. Habakkuk was resident in college, of course, and would often wander into the library in the evening to browse the shelves and, possibly, establish that it was being used for its proper academic purpose. Even though he was at this time vice chancellor of the university he would still invite undergraduates to 'at homes' in the Principals Lodgings. Jesus was noticeably less stuffy than some other colleges at that time. I was told that it was under his orders that the requirement for students to wear gowns at 'second hall' had been dropped. Dons continued to wear them to high table.Stephen Hemingway (talk) 15:41, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
