Adding to disambiguation page

Why isn't this page listed here? https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=John_Green&redirect=no I went there looking for it and couldn't find him. 192.235.78.16 (talk) 20:30, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Supporting AFC Wimbledon

I made a request to include under the other project section information that John will be donating proceeds from one of his Youtube channels to AFC Wimbledon. This request was refused, citing the fact that including information of football support was not encyclopedic in nature. I must counter that it is very common for English celebrity pages to include their support for clubs, and request this section be returned. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.243.208.150 (talk) 16:04, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

"The Yeti"

"The Yeti", John's wife, has not appeared in any VlogBrothers video... The reference links to a video in which John says "I'm Hank", Hank says "I'm John" and Katherine, Hank's wife, says "I'm the Yeti". Obviously they're all kidding. I think that sould be edited because lots of people think that she is Sarah Green. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.202.229.129 (talk) 14:55, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

You're right. Fixed. Andrea (talk) 21:29, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Quote?

Do we really need that quote that already appears on the 'Looking for Alaska' page, and only quotes someone's blog? IF that's the case, can we quote dozens of positive reviews as well? Czolgolz 13:40, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Well, it does quote the author himself, and this is the author's page, and it is not a review, and it is significant in light of the ALA award for the book for kids as young as 12, but let's see what others say. --LegitimateAndEvenCompelling 15:22, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Thisisnottom.com

I didn't know where else to put this as I discovered that the TINT does not have it's own page. Probably the wrong place to put it, but since Hank Green (John's brother) mentioned it, I think this is as good a place as any...

www.thisisnottom.com is an riddle game, where solving the riddle leads to the next page and the next page, and finally to a chapter of a story/life tale of a girl running from what-we don't know, not knowing who she is or what memories she has that are hers. Now, there's also www.thisisnotforums.com where a great amount of discussion about thisisnottom (or TINT for short) has been discussed, but since the majority of nerdfighters know of wiki, I thought it would be easier to make a page here for it.

However, I'm not going to persue to make a page for it and watch it get deleted, so, someone give their opinion on if this would be needed, please? Or, if there is a wiki page... I haven't found it yet, what would I look for?

Many have guessed that John has been writting the TINT pages, but nothing is really for sure, it's very intriguing none the less No Stahr (talk) 18:16, 15 May 2009 (UTC)

Nerdfighters and Worldsuck

I think the mention of these should either be expanded or deleted, as it doesn't explain anything. Andral 02:17, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

I expanded it, I think it's pretty good now. Jax

the definition is wrong, nerdfighters arent always nerds. they fight for nerds (see how to be a nerdfighter) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.4.248.65 (talk) 15:16, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Nerdfighters, ftw! I'm not sure how else to expand it. Someone should get to work on that one.

I found that disturbing as well, and set to amke the Hank Green page, unfortunatly its Hank green with a lowercase g Michael Anderson (talk) 18:32, 30 November 2008 (UTC)

I would think that Hank Green should be allowed to have his own page, and not keep being deleted. Most of Charles Dickens's children have their own pages, and none of them really did anything of distinction, besides being born with a famous father. Hank Green, on the other hand, is half of Brotherhood 2, which is the biggest video blog project ever. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.1.219.49 (talk) 17:19, 3 February 2009 (UTC)

In addition, Hank Green has released album, cofounded his own record label, appeared on one of the Discovery Channel... channels (sorry for the awkwardness there) until he was let go. He did blurbs advancing Green Technology. He also has written reviews for the NY Times. That all seems notable enough to warrant his own friggin Wiki page. I mean if William Hung can get one then Hank Green, who actually accomplishes stuff, certainly deserves one.128.200.138.168 (talk) 21:23, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

I agree, Hank Green is important enough to merit his own wikipedia page instead of being redirected to this one. He's half of vlogbrothers, he's released his own album, and has decreased overall WorldSuck dramatically. I think that's enough to get a wikipedia article. --12.108.214.239 (talk) 01:57, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

I strongly agree. In fact Hank Green is better known in YouTube; John often mentions how Hank is more popular. Apart from all of the accomplishments mentioned above Hank was also featured on YouTube because of his song "Accio Deathly Hallows". There are way less important articles out there; he has definitely accomplished enough to appear on wikipedia. --81.37.140.89 (talk) 13:59, 27 April 2009 (UTC)

Hank Green deserves his own page. 171.64.248.147 (talk) 00:11, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

One user has been maintaining a Hank Green page in her sandbox, and it is well-referenced and in many ways better than this one. User:Madithekilljoy/SandboxCadwaladr (talk) 17:50, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Why is the User's Sandbox Not a page? I mean at this point would it be a candidate for deletion! For christ sakes, he has his own record label and actual does noteworthy things! Nerdfighters, we need to get this up and staying like John's page.ValensDragosee (talk) 06:56, 4 August 2009 (UTC)

It's offical he has his own page Hank Green Gang14 (talk) 15:38, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Brotherhood 2.0 - Unnecessary section?

There seems to be a totally useless and trivial section within the Brotherhood 2.0 subsection devoted to a specific song performed by one of the brothers. Deletion is hereby proposed. 68.57.109.141 (talk) 02:41, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

That actually is a useless part of the section that has been deleted Gang14 (talk) 02:57, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
That came from another article that was being coatracked to support Hank Green. SirFozzie (talk) 03:31, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Nerdfighters an actual page?

Does anyone else think that Nerdfighter deserves its own page? --Stotheb2010 (talk) 15:20, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Perhaps it could be integrated into this article somehow, under Brotherhood 2.0 section. TheTwoRoads (talk) 15:31, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
That would be very rejected by many people I love John and nerdfighters but sorry guys but I'd say try for its own page Gang14 (talk) 03:18, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

I do! Nerdfighteria and Nerdfighters FTW! Hank needs his own page too!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.56.102.11 (talk) 09:58, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

I feel like Brotherhood 2.0 and Hank should each get their own page, but not because I'm sitting here thinking Nerdfighters are awesome, they are, but I think that John's wiki page deserves to be mainly about his writing. He's a damn good author and should be more famous for it than he is for being a youtube celebrity. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.141.205.70 (talk) 14:34, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Minor edits / Grammatical things

I noticed that Anglerfish wasn't Wikilinked, and it may be of use to create a section in order to discuss minutia, since the page is locked (at least for me (perhaps because I am new (but still)))

Another thing is the author of The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald isn't on the "inspired by" list (though it was quoted under the name of the fictional novel, "An Imperial Affliction" in TFIOS), whereas Walt Whitman is (Quoted in Paper Towns).

Looking for Alaska movie?

The article says that the movie is set to be released in 2013, but no reference is given. In 2011 John said this, where he pretty much said it wont be happening because of lack of interest, and the page for Looking For Alaska also confirms this. Could someone remove this? I don't have an account. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.0.167.132 (talk) 23:56, 26 June 2012 (UTC)

Crash Course

"Starting in 2012, Green and his brother started a short-format education video series entitled Crash Course, where John teaches world history, and his brother teaches biology."

A new season (? I suppose you'd call it that?) of Crash Course has started. John now teaches English literature (covering Romeo and Juliet, The Great Gatsby and The Catcher in the Rye) and Hank teaches ecology. I'd edit it in myself but mine is the account of a noob. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Missfuneralsong (talkcontribs) 11:42, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

I won't add Chemistry per WP:CRYSTAL, but I've updated the courses and cited their channel. It's not exactly WP:SECONDARY but it's better than nothing. Thanks for the suggestion. —Rutebega (talk) 18:02, 19 January 2013 (UTC)

John Green's number of children should be changed to "2" instead of "1". His 2nd child, Alice Green, was born today, June 3, 2013. He announced it over his verified twitter account "...Alice was born early this morning. Mother and baby are well." Amhesse (talk) 19:00, 3 June 2013 (UTC)

In the sentence "He intended to become an Episcopalian minister, but his experiences of working in a hospital with children suffering from life-threatening illnesses inspired him become an author, and later to write The Fault in Our Stars.[5]" "...inspired him become an author, ..." should be replaced with "...inspired him to become an author ...". Protection of article from editing?

Is ther any reason that this page should be protected since 2010? I want to contribute to update the article with recent information, but alas it seems I can't. 222.165.10.84 (talk) 16:02, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

Good question! The page is hardly controversial so I'm 100% sure the amount of vandalism is less than - say - the Jesus page (which ISN'T protected despite many vandalism efforts by anon editors). Someone either needs to justify the protection or do away with it... Ckruschke (talk) 18:37, 26 September 2013 (UTC)Ckruschke
Wow, indefinite semi-protection since 2010. Because the page has been fairly unproblematic recently, I've put in a request to the admin who placed the protections there initially, John Vandenberg. I think it's fair to request removal of semi-protection or at least going to pending changes given the circumstances. I, JethroBT drop me a line 20:17, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
I agree with User:I JethroBT, and have set the page to be under pending changes for changes by new users and anons only. John Vandenberg (chat) 03:58, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

Football club support?

This addition was made recently including information on what football club John happens to support (financially) this year. This was reverted, with the editor explaining: it is common practice to include celebrities support of football clubs. I don't think this is typically common at all, but even if it was, Green's support of certain FCs is not a particularly significant part of his biography because it is largely not discussed in reliable sources. Just because it happens to come up in one of his YouTube videos does not mean we necessarily need to include it. Does anyone else agree? I, JethroBT drop me a line 16:23, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

The following celebrities' pages list the team that they support:

Samuel L. Jackson, Liverpool FC; Patrick Stewart, Huddersfield Town Academy; Kobe Bryant, Barcelona FC; Drew Carey, Barcelon, Rangers, Seatle Sounders; Daniel Day Lewis, Millwall; Will Ferrell, Chelsea; Sir Richard Attenborough, Chelsea Football Club; Keira Knightly, West Ham United; Lennox Lewis, West Ham United; Daniel Craig, Liverpool FC; Fatboy Slim, Brighton & Hove Albion; Sir Elton John, Watford Football Club; Clive Owen, Liverpool Football Club; HRH Charles, Prince of Whales, Burnley Football Club;

Seeing as this article deals with a popular Vlogger i think it is only fitting to include information of his support for a club, especially since he has stated his financial contribution of the proceeds of one of his Youtube channels. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.243.208.150 (talk) 18:31, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

Seeing as how anyone can add anything to Wikipedia, that isn't really a compelling argument. That something exists on another article is not, by itself, a reason to do the same thing someplace else. Now, if there was a discussion of editors who agreed that football club affiliation / support should be listed on articles, that's a different story (and also an unlikely one). But because there hasn't been any sort of discussion about it as a general rule, we can only look at how important this is in relevance to John Green. And based on how Green is discussed in reliable sources, his FC support is not particularly relevant (though perhaps there are sources that discuss his unique involvement with Swindon Town F.C.-- I'm not sure). I, JethroBT drop me a line 20:44, 4 November 2013 (UTC)

John Green is an author and vlogger. He has made the decision to donate the proceeds of one of his vlogs to support this cause. How is this any different than his contributions to other causes listed?
Holy moly, assuming the media picks this up, I won't oppose it being mentioned in the article.--Milowenthasspoken 22:19, 5 November 2013 (UTC)
Agreed-- it is unusual and interesting. But like everything else, it's something that needs to covered by reliable sources, not just an announcement. We do not list every vlogbrothers project that John has initiated here; we cover the projects that have received a good amount of coverage per WP:DUE. – A simple Google search for "John Green" will return an overwhelming amount of results for the author. In this month alone, his article has received 141,959 hits (see this link) and in the last 90 days he has received 416,266 hits (same link, click "90 days"). It is clear that the author is the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. James (TC) • 11:08pm 12:08, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

  • Strong Oppose. This is about as stupid as the nominator trying to nominate other John Greens for deletion. I've never heard of this John Green, and it's quite a common name of which there are many notable individuals, indeed many more much more notable than this author who seems to write about teenagers holding hands and snogging. The highest artistic expression of the English language it appears not to be. Barney the barney barney (talk) 15:18, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
    • Barney, I totally agree with you, and am ready to vote against you for your rudeness. John Green is an award-winning author of the greatest sort, who's written books about suicide, homosexuality, abuse, and other difficult topics (I'm a school librarian, so I know what I'm talking about). While he's not the only John Green of note, nor perhaps the most notable, being deliberately insulting is a great way to hurt your cause. Czolgolz (talk) 15:22, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose. There are many John Greens and there is no clear primary topic. However popular this chap may be among American teenagers, he is certainly not widely known enough to trump all the others. As Barney says, the proposer prodding and AfDing other clearly notable John Greens (state higher court judges, politicians elected to state and national legislatures, Medal of Honor winners) does nothing to help us take him seriously, as it suggests (whether true or not) that he's trying to reduce the number of others on the disambiguation list to further his argument that this one is the primary topic. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:42, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose. As stated above, John Green is a pretty common name, plus Google does not equal Wikipedia, so I don't think that having stats from that is necessarily viable here. There are twenty articles on Wikipedia alone about people that have a variation of the name. We cannot assume that almost everyone who goes to Wikipedia and searches for the name is searching for John Green the author. Twyfan714 (talk) 17:38, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose. Presuming that this particular "John Green" should be the parent is endemic of the current culture that the most important things in history are happening today. If John Green (author) stops making videos tomorrow and is unable to pen notable follow-up novels, none of which I think will actually happen, in a year from now this thread will be looked at by other editors and laughed at... • Strong Oppose - Too many John Greens. Rational for move is WP:GOOGLEHITS, which is not a sound reason. EvergreenFir (talk) 19:25, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
  • Oppose - for all the aboveWP:RECENT, as , but, no offence to proposer intended, a classic example of why we need a guideline page WP:MYFIRSTREQUESTEDMOVE which explains among other things why we normally use Google Books not vanilla Google hits. • Support - Its true there are other John Greens, but this John Green is now, and has been for about the past 2 years, by far the most famous John Green. Frankly, I think the color Green should redirect to this personage, that's how famous he is. I see this proposal is probably going to fail, but I wanted to make my position known.--Milowenthasspoken 22:46, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
User:Milowent "the most famous John Green" is not enough, "more famous and notable than all other John Greens who have ever existed combined and will always be more famous and notable than all combined" is what we need to replace the dab page with this one John Green. In ictu oculi (talk) 05:04, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
Exactly what you said is true. Now, I can't prove there will never be another John Green in the future that is more famous than this John Green, but using the example of Jesus, I think I am on pretty safe ground. John Williams and John Roberts are more questionable than John Green. E.g., the German, Spanish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese, Simple English, and Swedish wikipedias all recognize him under John Green without qualification.--Milowenthasspoken 12:17, 30 April 2014 (UTC)
He's in fact so famous that it's clear that several people here (amongst whom I count myself) had never even heard of him before now! That really doesn't bode well for your claims. However, from your statements about the colour and Jesus, I assume you're being facetious in the first place. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:32, 30 April 2014 (UTC)

No evidence to support "Jason Peng" as John's Pseudonym

Unintentional "Edit Warring" over SciShow Space

I have been trying to correctly add in a little blurb about SciShow Space under the Vlogbrothers heading of this article, but have been struggling to do so correctly and unintentionally begun "edit warring". I did not mean to do this at all-- I simply wanted to add in SciShow Space to improve the Vlogbrothers section of this article, and to cite my revision correctly so that it may remain in the article.

I was wondering how one would recommend citing this since the only sources that I can find on this particular subject are YouTube videos. Because SciShow Space is a YouTube channel, I haven't been able to find a verifiable source about SciShow Space that is not a YouTube video.

Any help would be much appreciated, and please be aware that I am not trying to cause conflict or blatantly begin a hateful interaction with anyone, whatsoever. I am only trying to correctly add some information to this article, but am apparently failing to do so. 17poer (talk) 04:36, 9 June 2014 (UTC)
