I agree with the fact that "his work has been applied to saving lambs and calves from predation by coyotes" is pretty irrelevant but I thought I would at least give you a citation, you can find numerous studies which support this one through a google scholar search. Catalano, Conditioned taste aversion and coyote predation on sheep and turkeys, Behavioral and Neural Biology 29 (1980), pp. 532–536. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Purple rockstar (talkcontribs) 05:11, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup

[edit]

I did my best to clean up the research section. It no longer looks like it was written by a nine-year-old for the Simple English wiki. I don't have the knowledge to add anything, unfortunately, though if I do learn anything, I'll come back later and add it.

I tried to keep most of what was there already, but this didn't seem to fit. I didn't clean it up, but if you see a way to fix and add it, I encourage you to do so.

It is important to note that Garcia discovered conditioned taste aversion, not simple taste aversion. The difference is that, as demonstrated by the rats, one may become nauseous after eating a certain food but their nausea is unrelated to the food they ate. From this point on they would avoid the food or maybe even subconsciously trick themselves into not liking the taste because they associate sickness with it.

I also deleted "His work has been applied to saving lambs and calves from predation by coyotes" (after trying to clean it up) because it was both irrelevant and somewhat idiotic in it's current form. If someone could explain how conditioned taste aversion is used to save lambs and calves from coyotes (with citation, or so help you God), I wouldn't see a problem with putting that little blurb back in there.
