Fleming just joined the Army in late 1915 (report about his enlistement on 1 January 1916 [1]), after he couldnt establish himself at Rangers. Its highly unlikely that he went to Belgium within three months, without any newspaper that reported his death mentioning something like this. Instead the Northern Daily Mail reports: "A verdict of Suicide while Temporarily Insane was returned at an inquest at Hipswell, Richmond, yesterday on Lance-Coroporal John Fleming, 8th Cameron Highlanders, who cut his threat with a razor at the camp on Tuesday morning. Fleming had played football with Newcastle and Tottenham Hotspur, and had played many games in France and Germany. Northern Daily Mail - Saturday 25 March 1916 Also the Linlithgowshire Gazette just mentions "until on the fatal day he was found by a few of his company lying in a dying condition", nothing about Belgium or pneumonia.
