Why the nickname?
[edit]This says 'John Fox Potter nicknamed "Bowie Knife Potter"' and then no further mention of that nickname appears.
Without a reason for that nickname, the opening comment is a bit pointless. — Preceding unsigned comment added by FerdinandFrog (talk • contribs) 12:18, 8 September 2015 (UTC)
- I addressed this in my edit today, per the mention in Appleton's Cyclopedia, but am limited in time as well as to electronic resources. I hope someone in Wisconsin can review the journal article, since Appleton's Cyclopedia isn't always accurate. Ancestry.com's Wisconsin holdings seem much less extensive than usual for Virginia politicians of the same era. It doesn't have his obituary. At the risk of griping, I can't even review the speech commemorating Potter given to the Sons of the American Revolution after his death, though it is mentioned in the historical society's index, along with the bowie knife article from 1920 or thereabouts, so it may well have been desaccessioned in the past century.Jweaver28 (talk) 19:06, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
