[edit]He was a judge? Or was this just vandilism?--67.52.12.146 01:34, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm not joking, look at my userpage. I have built up a record over a long time and don't want to spoil my record. I was using a laptop when I started this page, unfortunately, it didn't have a floppy, so I couldn't transfer the content, so it was only brief. Anyway, you can google him up, his law service has a website.ßlηguγΣη | Have your say!!! - review me 01:43, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

John Davies (swimmer) → John Griffith Davies – Current disambiguation title is hardly ideal. He was at least equally notable as a Judge. John Davies (judge) would not be good either for the reverse of the same reason. His full name of John Griffith Davies would be the most ideal location, with the current title redirecting there. John Davies (judge) could be redirected there for good measure. John Griffith Davies is currently a redirect page pointing here. Safiel (talk) 04:37, 10 August 2017 (UTC)

- Comment Just to add that I would also favor John Griffith Davies over John G. Davies. John Davies seems a fairly common name and G. is a fairly common initial, so using the longer form would proactively protect against another disambiguation problem should another John G. Davies become notable. Safiel (talk) 05:26, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose not WP:COMMONNAME. I understand the problem but the solution might well be to move to John Davies (judge) reflecting the BLP's subsequent career. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:20, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose. It's a tough case, but I can hardly find any reference to him as "John Griffith Davies", so much that I even doubt it was his middle name – it's always either "John G. Davies" or "John Davies". This is the only short listing mentioning it. While I'm not a priori against using middle name as a disambiguator, it's so little known that it's about useless. To complicate matters further, there is a notable Australian agricultural scientist John Griffiths Davies (with an "s"), ADB, EOAS that we don't have an article about (yet?). And it seems the subject is still more notable as a swimmer than as a judge, so the current title seems good enough. No such user (talk) 11:43, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
- If we were going to move it anywhere, I would make it John Davies (swimmer and judge). Two-topic disambiguators are not unknown. bd2412 T 12:07, 10 August 2017 (UTC)
- Not entirely unknown, but extremely uncommon and rather odd. -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:19, 17 August 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose. We don't use middle names for disambiguation purposes unless they were commonly used to refer to the individual concerned. But rename to John Davies (judge), as that was his main career. He was known as a swimmer for about five years; he's been a lawyer for nearly sixty and was a judge for twelve of those years. -- Necrothesp (talk) 10:17, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose per above-indicated reasons, but would support John G. Davies or John Davies (swimmer and judge). —Roman Spinner (talk)(contribs) 21:33, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
- Relisting comment: there is consensus not to move to the proposed title, but several others have been proposed. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 13:44, 17 August 2017 (UTC)
- @Ivanvector: have you relisted it correctly? It's still in the backlog. DrStrauss talk 13:56, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
- @DrStrauss: as far as I can tell it's relisted correctly, but there seems to be an issue with the bot that updates the list. Some others are in the backlog which are also supposed to have been relisted. Ivanvector (Talk/Edits) 21:21, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
