Contested deletion
[edit]This page should not be speedily deleted because... The subject, John Cantlie, is the only British journalist in recent times who has been kidnapped and shot by British Islamic fighters abroad, making this incident unique. What happened to Cantlie questions the entire morality of foreign jihad fighters traveling to countries like Syria, Libya, Egypt and Somalia to engage in holy war. --Futurenet1977 (talk) 20:53, 7 October 2012 (UTC)
Factual errors
[edit]I this diff I removed what seems to be incorrect information about what is apparently a reference to Islamic State (however at that time period the correct name would be Islamic State of Iraq) and the death of a leader named "Abo Mohamad Al-Shami" whose names only appears in these references. I believe these to be factual errors created by mistaken information reported at the time of the incident. ~Technophant (talk) 02:05, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
Makes it seem like Cantlie is no longer a hostage
[edit]The current Wikipedia article for John Cantlie gives the false impression that he is no longer a hostage. -108.176.24.195 (talk) 22:40, 4 October 2014 (UTC)
- Not really. Intro sentence says: John Cantlie is a British war photographer and correspondent who was kidnapped in Syria with James Foley in November 2012 and remains a hostage. 94.253.154.131 (talk) 15:24, 17 October 2014 (UTC)

Is John Cantlie still living?
[edit]He has not been heard from for months. It's entirely possible that he is already dead. Should he not be in the category "Possibly living people" instead of "Living people"? I asked this elsewhere but no one took me up on my query.--Laughingboy2015 (talk) 11:35, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
- No word as far as I know. I'd rather not declare him dead just yet. Legacypac (talk) 11:37, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
- Nor would I, but isn't that what the "Possibly living people" category is for? For people who we don't know if they're alive or dead?--Laughingboy2015 (talk) 11:42, 14 November 2015 (UTC)
sign of life mid November 2015
(roughly translated: for the first time since February 2015, terror group IS has published a sign of life of journalist John Cantlie)
