His birth year
[edit]His birth year has been written "1945" in the article but it has been done "1946" at http://nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/physics/laureates/2006/. Which is right?--Bletilla 15:22, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
NASA OFFICIALLY RESCINDS THE JOHN MATHER NOBEL DISCOVERY
[edit]All these copious and pompous sound-bites of earlier days have disappeared. All references to John Mather’s actual Nobel-winning discovery have now been obliterated. His Nobel Prize is still mentioned, and his stock photograph explaining his Blackbody Spectrum is still displayed, but he is now disingenuously being said to have received his Nobel Prize for mapping the primordial radiation together with George Smoot!

JOHN MATHER ON SCIENTIFIC HONESTY
[edit]"For a scientist, there is only one easy path, the path of scrupulous honesty. Honesty is relaxing. There is nothing to hide and nothing to fear." - John Mather

PUBLIC ISSUES ABOUT JOHN MATHER
[edit]Even if we leave aside any issues about John Mather raised by any individuals, there remain in public evidence curious issues about him. The following are hard facts, presented without interpretation.
First, three years on since his receiving the Nobel Prize, he continues to remain in his pre-Nobel job status at NASA. He has been kept there by two successive NASA Administrators, one Bush-appointee and one Obama-appointee.
Second, the website of the Henry Foundation (msx4.pha.jhu.edu), which hosts the John Mather Nobel Scholar Program, has undergone some changes. It deleted all statements that suggested it had any connections to NASA, and then issued a statement that it had no connections to NASA. As of this date, that website can no longer be accessed, nor can the individual marquee pages announcing the John Mather Nobel Scholars for 2008 and 2009. (The site seems to be back on again - 29 December 2009).
In the Fall of 2009, responding to a question on the Nobel YouTube's "Ask a Nobel Laureate" Program as to whether anyone had contradicted his discovery, John Mather said: “No, I don’t think anybody has tried seriously to contradict the measurements. There are a few people who don’t think we did it right but there are only a few such people.”

In 2010 – and as of this date (9 February 2010) – NASA PR announcements and other web pages that used to report every development with regard to John Mather have fallen noticeably silent. In January, Mather was presented the "President General Gold Medal" by the Prime minister of India. This is the highest foreign honor Mather received. Mather reportedly was NASA's official representative in an Indian space summit with international representation. He was widely celebrated in the Indian media (NASA Scientist said this, NASA Scientist said that ….). NASA did not report anything about Mather in India.
In 2010 Mather was elected Fellow of the Optical Society of America. NASA did not report this.
Mather's NASA web page JOHN MATHER::SPEAKING SCHEDULE was last updated in August 2009. It remains unchanged to date – even though the Internet shows many high profile engagements lined up for 2010. Mather's own multiple NASA web pages (cv-type) also have not been updated with his many recent accolades.
In the gala event with the Indian Prime Minister, two American Nobel Laureates were especially honored: John Mather of NASA and Roger Tsien of the University of California, San Diego. A very happy photo of the Prime Minister warmly greeting Tsien has been published widely. There have not been issued any photographs of Mather with the PM. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.125.21.189 (talk) 19:20, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

On or about 24 March 2010 NASA shut down John Mather's Government web page entitled JOHN MATHER::SPEAKING SCHEDULE which was inaugurated after his Nobel Prize. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.124.36.183 (talk) 23:45, 24 June 2010 (UTC)
The summer internship period at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center has just ended. In normal course, a selected few of these interns would have been awarded the vaunted JOHN MATHER NOBEL SCHOLARSHIPS. But there has been no public announcement this year. It appears that NASA has cracked down on this as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.138.129.221 (talk) 18:56, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
PLEASE NOTE: A check of the Henry Foundation website up until Agust 6, 2010 showed no announcements of the John mather Nobel Scholarships 2010 - even when the loading was refreshed. Nor any other Internet source showed the announcement. A check today August 8 - after the Internship period has ended - shows the announcement, dated July 28, 2010. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.124.39.111 (talk) 17:59, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
FEAR OF TRUTH: A link to a NASA Government document that clearly shows that John Mather's experiment had failed was posted under the External Links Section today. Within minutes, this linik was removed. This means that all the favorable documents are cited, but this document - which has the same scientific and legal standing as any others - is not allowed. This is because this document gives the lie to everything that has been said in this site. So it will be kept from the World! Here is the link to that document again (see Section 2.2):
